check your snail mail for coupons or see if places like econolube or city garage has any copuons on their website you can use...

I would say $20 would be average, however, their xx point inspection will reveal another $100 in needed repairs, like spark plug wires, air filter, headlight fluid, etc...

Go to the dealer? Over here they cost $20 for most cars (this is Canadian) or a small mechanic you trust, DO NOT GO TO PLACES LIKE WALMART, THEY SUCK

Change it yourself. 7L of synthetic oil and a K&N filter comes to ~$70CDN. If I let the shops do it they charge $100 and go with cheap filter. It's not really the money factor, more of me having control of what I put in my car and just knowing that I doublechecked and tightened things myself. Gives me that peace of mind. Plus it's something to do on a nice Sunday afternoon :)

Changed the tranny oil not too long ago, and did the antifreeze just yesterday.

I know nothing about cars. Slowly learning and gives me great gratification knowing I can do some of the more basic things myself instead of relying on others and saving money at the same time.

They're not expensive, the shop doesn't make much/any money off it at all. It's pretty must just used to get you in the door so they can offer you stuff. They'll probably tell you that "this may need replacing" and "that needs replacing."

Oh, and don't bother asking for any specific type of oil. Odds are, they're just pumping it out of the tanker.

"Oh, you want quaker state? Sure!"
But you'll really end up with Penzoil, or whatever they have.
*Just an example*
