I still have a modem in my computer for events like that.

Actually, I had to use it just the other day, cable was down for about an hour and a half. :)

do you have to pay for the dialup isp? i heard some broadband companies give you a dialup connection in case of outages, but Adelphia doesn't do that.

Neither does Time Warner. I kept my modem in my box up until last year. My modem died on a Sunday (can't replace until Monday) and they said

"We'd be happy to open up a dialup account for you for $15 a month!"

I said

"You have gotten to be f***ing kidding me, right? :|

Yanked that modem out of the case in 2.5 seconds flat.

16 hours?!?! Try 2+ weeks without a net connection at home...stupid SBC screwed up my DSL line activation order after I moved, tried to raise my rate to $34.95/mo, and said they had to lower my speed to 384, instead of the 768 I had before :|

Good thing theres only 2 more months left in the contract....then Im gonna try to ditch them for a Wide Open West 1.5 mbit cable connection

of course the other problem would be that I don't have a regular phone connection paid for, I only use a cell phone.

2 weeks, I would be a mess. I'd probably even go outside!

You should try getting a different tech when you call them, I got them to switch me from 384->768 after a couple of attempts.

According to their website its free. In the future you will get 10 free hours, and charged $0.99 an hour overage...

I think the reason they took me down to 384 was because I was farther from the CO than I was before (I think Im somewhere around 13,000 feet). If they had only told me that, I really wouldnt have been too pissed, but it was the combination of the lowered speed, the 2 week delay, and the higher price that made it worse.

I told the guy all that, and he offered to take be back down to my regular rate of $29.99, which I was promised for at least a year when I signed up last year. Now that I think about it, I should be getting comped for the 2+ weeks I havent been able to use the connection
