Is this the state where if it passed it would mean only marijuana could only be sold by a select few (mostly corporate players)?

From what I understand, it was limited to 10. However, it also allowed adults to grow their own with a $50 License. There was an exception to the 10 Official Suppliers, that is if none of the 10 were not fulfilling some particular Market Demand, then other Growers could come in to Supply it.

$50 license for 1 plant that would supply ~$20 worth of weed I'm sure.

CNN projecting this to fail... I'm surprised, but it sounds like it's to do with how only a few companies get to supply the product.

It's initially limited to 10 growers (more licenses can be added starting at year 4) because they needed funding for the campaign, and these wealthy investors agreed to provide the funding in exchange for having a temporary growing monopoly. I don't really see it as a reason to vote it down. In the long run it's better than maintaining prohibition.

Limiting the number of plants, such as "4 plants, you're good....5 or more plants, you're a criminal"...IS IDIOTIC...so is the "fee per plant" thing.

It should be obvious whether someone is growing commercially or for private use, say when someone is growing 100s of plants it obviously is not for "private use".

By over-complicating things and introducing fees etc. you sure won't solve any drug problems...it would be SO EASY just to say "it's ok as long as it's for private use and not in public" but "commercial growing and selling is forbidden". Is this so difficult?

I am still baffled that now in the US there are two (?) states where it's legal, even "recreational" MJ use including growing some plants..while in other states you can go to jail for it. MAKES. NO. SENSE.

I voted against issue 3. Legalization is one thing, but codifying a 10 provider oligopoly into the state constitution is bullshit. If they want to legalize it, then just legalize it for all and have a free market for suppliers and distributors.

Why wouldn't they just start with medical and then try to expand later or did they add the medical to the bill to try and get the sympathetic vote so some few could get richer?

Honestly, I almost feel like this bill was written to fail from the start. Lots of people in Ohio seem to be OK with legalization but not the crazy way it was presented here. Now the state legislators can run around saying "See, we gave people the choice and they said 'No'.".

That sounds a hell of a lot like protectionism to me. Boo. Barriers to business entry irk me.

Whoever grows the best, most in demand product at the lowest price is who gets to produce.

Not who gave whoms uncle the proper reach around and people pay double the price for an inferior product while some guy gets to retire to his own beach house. I value companies that actually care about their product in their market.

Give a monopoly to a group of 10 growers? I'm glad the voters of that state said "no thanks".

Yeah, by all accounts this would have passed if the actual law wasn't so stupid.

Because of the monopoly?

Yup. Thats exactly why. Monopoly codified into the state constitution. Its just a shit state really. What kind of corrupt politicians can concoct some dumb shit like that? The funny thing is they have been feeding dumb Ohioans shit legislation for decades.
