Ohio gov signs law allowing guns in bars.

In NV, CCW holders can carry in a bar. The only story I've ever heard of guns in bars here was one where a guy escalated a family feud by going to a bar in Winnemucca with a gun and the intent to kill members of the family his was feuding with. A patron in the bar was a Reno CCW holder. When the Winnemucca man opened fire the Reno man pulled out his piece and killed him. The Winnemucca man killed one person and injured two others and the Reno man is credited with saving the lives of pretty much everyone else in the bar.

This is what I was wondering. I'm pretty sure there is no law against bringing guns into bars in PA. I never have, but I wouldn't have considered that it would be illegal...

It really depends on the state. Many/most it's illegal and the property owner always has the right to post a sign forbidding them.

The previous law banned firearms in bars. The new law bans drinking while carrying a firearm in a bar.

So your position is that a gun owner who followed the old law will suddenly decide to become a criminal and ignore the new law? That "don't carry a gun" magically deters drunks from carrying firearms, but "don't drink while carrying" will be widely ignored? That's absurd.

Its allowed where I live and I do not see a bloodbath going on. Enough with the fear mongering already, a vast majority are responsible gun owners. Those that are not and do something stupid will lose theirs to own guns when they get convicted.

Also realize that bars in Winnemucca are not frequented by a ton of people, so it's not like the offender had to mow through 25 innocents to clean out the bar.

Carry permits are one thing... but a law explicitly allowing them to be taken into bars (granted, with caveats)? Seriously?

I have no problems with people toting their arms around, but a little common sense goes a long way. That common sense tends to disappear in a bar rather quickly.

doesn't look like the law was made to specifically allow bars. that's just sensationalism on teh part of the reporter. the law is for "licensed establishments", and mentions some caveats for bars.

I would imagine the same people that respected the law to not bring firearms in would respect the law to not drink when they do.

The people that brought them in despite the law prohibiting firearms in bars would also be likely to drink while armed.

So, it seems to me, that this law arms law abiding citizens.

Not to mention in the car is the 4th or 5th most common place for people to keep their firearms. I don't see a lot of people drinking run out to their cars start shooting.

This. I was a little opposed to it when Arizona passed a similar law a couple years back. But there haven't really been any incidents because of people taking firearms into bars.

Of course, owners can post signs saying 'No Firearms', but if the individual is carrying concealed and doesn't whip the weapon out, no one is the wiser.

We already have the guns in bars law in AZ too. I don't think there have been any problems.

I just think it should be up to the business owners.
