So I was listening to Blue Magic by Jay-Z, and right when Pharrell said "OHHH SHIT" I saw the ESPN news of Yanks in talks with the Twins about Johan. There are also rumors that the Yanks are talking with the O's about Erik Bedard. "OHHHHH SHIT!"

Prelim talk

I know it's preliminary talks, but knowing that the Yanks are in the hunt for Johan makes me very happy.

The Twins would probably want at least 2 out of Chamberlain, Hughes and Kennedy. That's too high a price.

True you cant buy championships, but Santana, Bedard, Chamberlain, Wang, Pettite... If they could stay uninjured and with that offense they are bringing back, they would be 10:1 odds on favorites to win it all

GOOD GRIEF CHARLIE BROWN! That is one nasty hand of aces, but I see Andy leaving/retiring :(

Of course you can. They bought a bunch and the Red Sox bought theirs.

I think he waits until camp and announces his 1 year return.

Even if you take him out and insert anyone else, thats still a nasty rotation

Yankees should definitely give up Kennedy for Santana. He's completely unproven. Sure, he's got potential but Santana is one of the best in the game, if not THE best. Obviously it will take alot more than that, but there's not too many people I wouldn't give up for him. Joba and Phil Franchise I would leave alone.

Well there's the problem. The Twins might take Kennedy as long as the deal includes either Hughes or Joba along with him. I don't think the Yanks have any other prospects that will make the deal happen without at least one of the two untouchables going along with Kennedy. That's too big a price to pay for the Yanks and the Twins won't settle for less.

When the Angels get Cabrera to go with Hunter I think I will be putting a few $$$ on them to win it all.

The Yankees can't get Bedard, don't be ludicrous. The Orioles aren't going to give him up without a HUGE return of young talent. The Yanks won't even have enough prospects left after the Santana deal, never mind not being willing to part with some of the better ones.

If the Twins don't get Hughes or Joba for Johan I will be ultra annoyed. They should demand whatever it takes. Ask for Hughes and Melky.

Wow the yanks are actually going to worry about pitching? Why do I have a feeling they're going to spend $50 million on it and have AAA and even AA fielders...

WTS Concept of Balance, special deal for you Georgie ^_^

Ugh - so much going wrong here.

I don't know what planet you think that's going to happen on. Maybe this is how the Yanks look inside of all Yankee fan's minds. Bedard AND Santana? Wow...just wow. They would be destro...you know what, nevermind. Yeah, they're going to get all of them.

Of course you can. They bought a bunch and the Red Sox bought theirs.

I'm no Red Sox fan and I can't stand bandwagon Red Sox fans. That being said, there was nothing :bought: about the Sox WS victory this year. Huge parts of that team were homegrown: Youkilis, Pedroia, Papelbon. Mike Lowell was a toss in from the Marlins two years ago and Hideki Okajima was brought in so DiceK would have someone to talk to. Please.

For the record, I'm no Yankees fan either. These are the new Yankees folks. The ones who aren't willing to destroy their farm system to bring in top dollar names. They're going to be producing their own. Joba is lights out and Phil Hughes is going to dominate so long as he can stay healthy. In my opinion, it's not worth it.

I really don't want to give up Hughes, the kid proved very solid in the playoffs last year.

LOL mark my words.

Melky Cabrera and Hughes and Kennedy will not get the job done

The Angels and the Dodgers can put together better packages, and the mets can definately rival them.

These "preliminary talks" are a smoke screen to get others involved.

*** in other news, talks b/w the dodgers and marlins and angels and marlins hit snags with regards to Miguel Cabrera -- the Twinkies are using the Yankees and I'm loving every minute of it!

I believe in the late 90's & 2000 when the Yankees won all those world series their payroll wasn't that much higher.

1996 - Yankees was #1 at 52 million. 2nd was Baltimore at 48.7 million. 3rd was Atlanta at 47.9 million.

1998 - Baltimore was #1 at 70.4 million. 2nd was Yankees at 63.1 million. 3rd was Atlanta at 59.3 million.

1999 - Yankees was #1 at 88.1 million. 2nd was Texas at 81.3 million. 3rd was Atlanta at 75.5 million.

2000 - Yankees was #1 at 92.9 million. 2nd was LA Dodgers at 90.3 million. 3rd was Baltimore at 83.1 million

When the payrolls were more of a level field, the Yankees were winning championships... When they increased their payroll tremendously & left everyone in the dust (until the redsox recently) they have struggled.

The Red Sox bought their two championships on salary dumps, and the Yankees were shelling out plenty of dough when they won their 4... not sure what you're talking about. One of the highest salaried teams usually wins it all.

As a Twins fan i hate to lose Santana, but it's not possible to resign him...so i'm excited to see what kind of deal they can get. :D

Yep, they bought some stupid stuff though. For example: Carl Pavano.
