I accidentally raised my dram divider to 250mhz 5/4 (or something like that) i restarted and it won't boot at all.. just beeping every 3 to 4 seconds and power led flashes. I have tried clearing the cmos using the jumper and also removing the battery for a few seconds. Is there any way i can clear the cmos? other than that? and other recommendations?

Unplug the computer, turn the PSU off, switch the CMOS jumper to clear for about 20 minutes, then set it back, plug the comp back in, turn the PSU back on. Should work then.

Remove power from the rig by pulling the plug or switching the PSU off.

Move the PC Speaker jumper to the ON position.

Remove the Battery.

Move the CMOS jumper to CLEAR.

Press the Start Button on the case or motherboard to drain the capacitors.

You may leave the board in this condition for as long as it takes to clear the CMOS. If a short 30 second clear or a 15 minute clear doesn't work, try an 8 hour clear then a 24 hour clear.

Plug in a PS2 Keyboard.

Put one stick of RAM in the top orange slot marked DIMM2.

Move the CMOS jumper to Normal.

Replace the Battery.

Press and hold the Insert Key on the Keyboard.

Apply power to the rig by plugging the power in or using the switch on the PSU.

Press the Start Button to power the rig up.

When you hear the BEEP, release the Insert Key and press the Delete Key on the Keyboard.

Once you enter the BIOS set the DATE and TIME then Load Optimized Defaults.

Save and Exit.

Enter the BIOS again and set it up the way you want for your particular rig.

NEVER load any saved CMOS settings from CMOS Reloaded once you have a new BIOS installed.

Most mobo resets to default cmos by pressing the Ins key while powering up. This means holding down on the Ins key until the bios comes up and then letting it go. Sometimes it take about 2-3 times before it will reset. Try it.

Now i'm really scared... I have tried the 30 sec, 15min and 8 hour (actually left it for 12) and there doesn't seem to be any response at all. Still beeping (long) every 3 - 5 seconds. The power led flashes steadily and the ps2 keyboard doesn't seem to change anything. I am trying to source the problem.. but not sure where to start. I dunno if i fried something or that the dram divider is set too high and the cmos just won't clear. is there a faster way to clear the cmos ???? plz help... I thank you all for your posts...

I use 2 things you prob dont have
A PCI vga vid card
1 stickcheap sloppy timed PC3200 RAM stick - 256MB
If you can get into bios, set el cheapo ram to spd detect

No USB or WiFi anything connected

you want to get as basic as possible

24 hour shutdown discharge may be necessary
You could try reflash bios to SAME one.

I was gonna say great post - then you note "from DFI Street" - LOL 😉

your right i don't have a pci video card or any other ram stix laying around.

1. How important is the order of the instructions for the cmos reset..
2. Are there other combinations that would work if the above does not.??
3. If after 24 hours i still cannot post what parts should i be looking at replacing????

i should also mention that i am unplugging the power connectors from the motherboard for the reset.

just wondering how you accidently do that sounds like you didnt know what you were doing.

edit: sorry, if i sound like an ass not ment to be taken that way. accidents help you learn from your mistakes.

Can't you just hold down insert while booting up? That seems to be the only thing that resets me to stock speeds (admittedly not using a DFI board)

Np... your right i tried to push the dram settings too high. i figured if i messed up i could simply reset the cmos but turns out it wasn't the case.

Well i tried that but it doesn't seem to do anything... no text on screen just beeping. I am gonna pick up a PCI vid card and a crappy stick of ram and test that. and see if i can get anything

sounds like you fried it how many volts did you put into it? sorry to hear that man now you can get two gigs :-D

i think they were set at 3.4v or 3.5v but they were funny for like 2 weeks no problems.. it's only when i changed the dram setting (divider) too high that it quit
