Ok I just signed up for paypal, and sold some stuff got some money in there and now i cant do anything with it.

It says add a credit card to send money. I dont have a credit card. Is this the only way I can send paypal money? is by adding a credit card?

How about adding my checking account? It says that will get you verified. Will that let me send money?

i noticed that it said to geta check sent to you it was 1-2 weeks, if i become verified and add use my checking account, can i have the money sent to my checking account so i can spend it the next day?

Sorry but im a paypal newb so, is it safe to give them my checking info? I have heard so many horror stories on this board i dont want the same to happen to me.

Thanks,
Josh

If you add a checking account, it'll still take like 3-5 days to transfer to your account. Sorry :(

Yea well 5 days is still better than 2 weeks imo. But i really jsut want to know about the safety etc.....

And will adding my checking accout let me spend my money?
For what reasons will they just freeze my whole checking account and leave me without any money?

OK, here is how it works... In order to SEND money, you need enough in your account to cover the transaction, OR you can pay the balance from a credit card or a direct transfer from your checking account. In order to use your checking account, you must be verified. Verification is a relatively easy process.

In order to get money out of your account, you must either wait for a check, or do a transfer to your checking account. Again, you must be verified.

Hope that helps.

ok cool, yea i understand that. Like if i got 100 bucks in paypal, and i spend 75 i have enough in there to cover the charges etc... nothing will come out of my checking account.

What about security though??? How safe is giving out this info/ access

This might be helpfull...
*the safest way to use paypal is with a credit card and not a debit card. with a ccard you always have the brass behind you; MC, VISA, AMEX... in case someone gets ahold of your information and taps into your account. yes, it has happened.
*with a debit card they can drain your checking account and a bank or credit union really can't/won't do much to help you. they won't detect "unusual" spending as affectively (if at all) as a ccard company.
*if you have a ccard with a low spending limit use that one, for obvious reasons.
*keep in mind that PayPal is not a bank. they don't want the hassles & expenses of being a bank.
*with all this in mind PayPal is considered pretty safe. there respected so much that ebay wants to purchase them (if they have'nt already).
