O'hare is the worst airport in the world as far as delays.

About a year ago I was in O'Hare and supposed to leave at 7pm. After 4-5 delays I finally got out of Chicago around Midnight. They came over the loud speaker and said "Ok folks, they have the seats back in the aircraft and we are now ready to board.

WTF? Talk about something you should never say to your passengers.

O'Hare is the most time-draining airport in the US. It often is beaten by JFK for least on-time arrivals, but O'Hare isn't that far behind. Overall O'Hare wins this annoyance battle with long waits for everything else.

For me it takes 8 hours to drive from home to O'Hare (from Nebraska). The last time I flew it took over 6 hours. For a direct flight. And it wasn't unusually late since 5 hours is common. Being the Windy City in the north with snow isn't a good thing for flights.

they delayed my last flight through o'hare, b/c this family 'ABSOLUTELY HAD TO TRAVEL TOGETHER', husband, wife and 3 kids.... and they couldn't get 5 people to accept the first flight next morning.
so we're boarded all on the plane, they have like 3 people that want to do it, need 2 more. no one volunteers, so they make the supervisor come, that takes 10 minutes, then the supervisor has to determine who to bump based on who paid the least amount. another 10-15 passes, then the family just all of a sudden decides they will fly out tomorrow, after making an entire flight of people wait 45 minutes.

god i was about ready to choke someone.

Sucks for you. I flew the Delta Shuttle from Midway to LGA this morning with no delays :).

It's especially bad if you fly United, because they believe a bottleneck at their desks with 2 hour wait times are good for business. I once waited a total of 6 hours one day for United lines. First line was to check in at LAX, and was 1.5 hours. Roughly 2/3 of the counters were empty at this time. Next line was 2.5 hours when the flight I was supposed to be on got canceled. Again, only one area servicing people and only about half had people manning the stations. After 2.5 hours they "offered" to put me on a flight 24 hours later and claimed it was not their fault because there had been weather several hours prior. Even though other airlines were sending out all their flights delayed, United could do whatever they wanted apparently since at some point that day there had been bad weather. Then another 2 hours waiting at baggage claim for the one single person working that line. I finally got my bag and hopped on a bus which arrived roughly 17 hours before my flight was supposed to take off.

They refused to reimburse me for the bus because I had used a frequent flyer ticket and those tickets apparently are magical in nature for them because they can refuse to do anything at any time and say the only thing I was actually guaranteed was to get screwed in the anus by them.

O'Hare at least has decent food options. I flew United out of ORD once and it was the singularly worst airline experience I've had to date. Fuck United.

Flying out of Midway is a lot easier.

you've obviously never been to Kansas City International.

And how is it O'Hare's fault that NYC has bad weather?

I was connecting there a couple years ago and noticed I was paying 10% sales tax on food and drink. I try to avoid flights that connect there - it really is the worst of all the ones I've been to.

Peoria? Like...IL? I don't see you going through Ohare. Midway is more likely.

No. I've never connected through Midway for Peoria. That connection could suck depending on what terminal you wind up in for your landing. If you are on a big bird you probably will come in on the C terminal or so. But to get to Peoria you usually have to make your way over to the podunkville terminals in F/G. That can be quite a haul depending on how long it takes to deboard.

I missed a flight out for Christmas last year. United. large crowd of people waiting for their bag check tickets. dude just standing there not handing them out, wondering why 50 people are crowded up at the front preventing others from checking in. About 1 and a half hours to get through a line of 70 or so people.

Fuck OHare and fuck United.
