And this is some huge problem because...?

Oh no! Kids could choke on the wrapper! Yeah, and they could choke on any of a thousand other things they eat every day. Maggots in the nose? Really? If their hygiene is that bad, I'm thinking that they have bigger things to worry about than a little sugar dust in the nose.

Must be a slow news day.

Smarties -- a popular, disk-shaped sugar candy

Who doesn't know that?! When they write an article about the automobile, do they mention that it's a popular mode of transportation?

If these kids want to smoke Smarties, that's fine - but you have to consider the effects of second-hand Smartie smoke.

And remember, kids:
?It can be done with anything made with sugar and compressed ? Necco Wafers, Conversation Hearts, SweeTarts, Lik-M-Aid is already pulverized and so is Pixy Styx,? Ostrow told the Journal.

Other fun things in journalism:
All articles about snow will reference it as "the fluffy white stuff."
All articles about Mars will reference it as "The Red Planet."

Well, isn't it a bit of a step up? I mean, I remember kids snorting Kool-Aid in the 80s. Is it better for them to imitate doing cocaine or smoking?

I had to look them up. I know they are candy, but I couldn't visualize what they were.

They used to have those gum cigarettes - they came in realistic cigarette packs, too. They were covered in a powdered sugar so when you blew into them, smoke came out.

They've stopped making them, I believe. I liked them a lot as a kid. I've never smoked anything ever.

Just think of all those poor diabetics who could be severely harmed by the secondhand sugar smoke. :p

Kids try to hard these days... back when I was in school we just smoked....

And honeslty I think smoking would kill you slower. I'm sure these kids aren't snorting that stuff as often as people smoke and they already are showing side effects.

Yeah, I think they were outlawed. They were not very good as far as candy goes.

At some point, aren't news outlets accountable for being a major part of the spreading of these "trends"?
