Oh WTF !!!! 5.9 cat?

Seriously guys...what's with the new drivers. I really don't like updating alot..So I just forced myself to download the 5.9 catalyst drivers...

Damn I was stunned.

Gained a 3-4 fps in FEAR (which helps a bit 🙂 )

But what really surprise me is on DOOM3, usually I don't use AA since the first time I tried it, the FPS was ok, but not worth sacrificing for eye candy. Then, I turned the AA again up to 4x , I was stunned and the gameplay was smooth as without the AA on. Just to make sure that I'm not going crazy, I went back to use to console to activate the timedemo demo 1 several times !

Here are the before and afters 😕

[5.6 catalysts]

1280x1024 on high

NoAA: 68.6
AAx4: 51.0

[5.9 catalysts]

1280x1024 on high

NoAA: 68.1 (not changed)
AAx4: 69.9 - 70.0 ?????? (WTF !)

I'm dreaming....DOOM3 just became more gorgeous :Q drools...

I do notice the difference when @ the lvl right where the super demon is (if you see the big giant coffin like structure). That's the place that gets a beating on 4 aa 1280x1024 (even without AA) with 5.7 catalysts. I'm pleased w/ the new drivers, smooth as butter.

Pics? Are you sure that AA was on? 😉

My thoughts exactly - whenever a benchmark goes up with AA on, something weird is going on. If I wasn't almost tearing up at the proximity of a skunk that went off like a stink bomb in my neighborhood, I'd swear something was fishy ... 😉

(btw, skunks stink something awful when you're close!! Yuck!)

I want to see if theres _ANY_ difference at all

Yeah me too, I have 5.9 and I didn't see any drop in performence in DOD:Source at 2x AA!!!!!

You have to be carefull benching Doom3...

Cuz, changing any video options resets the resolution to defualt.
(and other stuff too)

I tried the 5.9's with the transparency AA hack, and it worked on my x800, but I also got mad texture shimmering, in pretty much all the games I played. I dont know if this is the result of the hack or not, but I said "F*** that" and changed back to 5.7.

I think part of it may be due to ATI using shader replacement now.

Now? ATI has been doing shader replacement for sometime now, and Nvidia was doing shader replacement before that with Nv3 (although I think Doom3 was the last game they did performance shader replacement for)

Anyway, I think AI has to be enabled, otherwise, there is no shader replacement.
