Oh wise ones, please take a peek at my system

After 2½ years its time for an upgrade. I?ve got some cash (but not mega bucks 🙂) and have more or less decided on the following:

CPU: Athlon64 3500 (socket 939)
MoBo: Asus A8V deluxe VIA K8T800PRO, 939
PSU: Tagan 480w TG480-u01
Memory: 512 Mb Corsair XMS, DDR, PC3200C2PT, Cas 2 (two of these for 1Gb)
Video: BFG 6800 GT

I already have a case, monitor, 7200 HDD, optical drives, some cooling.
The system is going to be used mainly for gaming but for a few other things too.

Any recommendations? Is there anything that I should obviously change or am missing? The memory is the component I?m least sure about, will it be compatible?. Noise levels/heat I?d like to keep to a minimum.

Further suggestions and advice gratefully received.

for ram compatabillity please read this article at toms motherboards and memory

other than that its lookn sweet, 3200 ram is fine, long as u not overclocking, but the corsair ram should give u a bit of head room for that anyway. if u use 3200 (400mhz ram) then everything will be running in a nice 1:1 ratio. but u neednt go for the expensive XMS stuff......jus go for a 1Gb of value 3200 ram, it is the same speed but has slightly slower timings.....i say this becuase timings mean diddly squat on A64, the on cpu memory controller is basically un-affected by timings at all, so id go for value ram and save money at no loss in performance (less u wanna O/C)

i would prefere a Nf3 - 250Gb chipset, it performs the same and has extra goodies like built in firewall

think your missing a decent HSF......the stock amd one is good, but u can get quieter ones like this zalman

zalman CNPS7000B-Cu

u defiantely need 1Gb ram which u have and the 6800gt and the 3500 should set u up for blistering speed in games

enjoy man
