Just to bring everyone up to speed quick..I am studying abroad in Japan. (NOT READ OVER or EDITED for mistakes....I just write like i talk)
Sunday:
I was up at 9, and my friends call me. They are gonna climb mount fuji. I dont really want to cause its gonna rain..and its hard as hell. I try to make it to the bus on time but I dont so I hang out in Shinjiku for a little bit and then head back. There is a local american magazine in tokyo, and it said that there was a beer festival that day. I thought maybe it might be sold out but I would give it a try anyway. I take the hour commute there and find the place after some searching. Go up to the front desk and in the little english this girl knows says sold out. I keep on asking saying..its just 1 of me...please. Kept giving me the famous X that the japanese do with their hands and i went outside to think of what to do. I thought...maybe if i weight here long enough she will come get me and feel bad about it all. I know thats dumb but I like to dream a lot.
Well woudlnt u know it...after 15 mins of me waiting outside, looking in through the glass once and a while, she comes rushing out, with two guys, one worker, and the organizer of the event. They all usher me in, let me pay and I am not rocking the beer festival! This is the website http://www.craftbeerfestival.jp/ (you can translate it with google).
You get 8 tickets and a mug for like 25 bucks...not too bad. i wish i brought my camera but i totally forgot. I go around tasting some of the best beer i have had in my life. I tried 2 IPAs, 1 Weizen, 2 Stouts, an excellent wheat, a Japanese Sason, a bock, and one more that i ot from an extra ticket....dont even know what it was called..it was a german beer of some sort.
I met a lot of cool people including an American club for beer in japan. I kept talking to this guy so he invited me to the after party at a bar 20 mins away. I get there and it is amazing! Its like a pub in Japan...PACKED with all the head brewers of the microbrew in Japan. The beer is FREE. 5 things on tap (they have tons more...about 40 including some rogue from the US! but they only let 5 for the party) and then they were passing out bottles randomly of beer from Europe. There was one called moonraker I think....Wow was it amazing.
I talked to some Japanese guys, including one that takes a vacation to the US every year JUST for beer. He travels around and then ends it with the American Beer Festival. For some reason a lot of the Japanese brewers wanted to shake my hand and say hello. It was an amazing time..WHO can so no to free beer?
Good times..good times..
