So I've got a laptop that I use mostly for presentations. The rest of the time it just sits in the bag doing nothing. It's a pretty decent A64 3000+ 60 gig Presario and I was starting to hate myself for spending the extra money on features I didn't use.

Until I found UltraVNC! Now it's sitting across the room happily doing all the downloads, par checks, rar unpacks, freeing up my main rig for more neffing. Why didn't I come across this software earlier?!

The lappy has XP Home, so that's why I never used Remote Desktop on it.

What is the difference between UltraVNC and regular VNC? I'm sure I could google this but I'm lazy.

Be sure and install the update video hook driver....it made a huge difference for me with the lag when using UltraVNC from work to home.

VNC is the protocol. There are many client/server VNC packages like TightVNC, RealVNC, and UltraVNC.

VNC was originally developed by AT&T IIRC. UltraVNC and TightVNC are improvements of the original by open-source groups.

I use rAdmin from famatech... its Super fast even from across the state.

fairly peppy response time over my network. I think it only uses 30Kb max at a time.
