Saw this and got a laugh, and even though it is Mississippi (and all that implies) I felt it relevant to the all the recent talk about how hard christians have it, and how controlling and butthurt atheists are. Anyone ever seen or heard of atheists resorting to something like this?

http://www.thewire.com/politics/201...s-that-wont-discriminate-against-gays/370872/

I'm not really surprised by this at all. Just another manifestation of the victim complex the religious right keeps red faced and frothy about, but seeing as how many here have submitted that atheists want to control and oppress others who don't share their convictions (in addition to somehow being even more butthurt than these zealots, if that's possible) - does anyone know of something similar to this but from atheists/agnostics?

Kudos to the people responsible for the widespread rejection of this hateful dogma and it's agenda. Shame on those who think advertising no discrimination is itself, a form of discrimination.

It would be nice if christians not suffering from rectal cranial inversion could speak out against their authoritarian, hateful brethren. We expect moderate muslims to engage other more fundamentalist, radical muslims over their transgressions, is it wrong to think christians can and should be doing the same?

Ironically, this sticker represents the very promotion of discrimination...against the freedom of religious convictions. Businesses that display this sticker believe Christians should be forced, by law, to embrace homosexuality and deny their faith in personal business practices.

Actually, Businesses displaying this sticker aren't saying they'll refuse to anyone. They're saying "we're here to make money, period"

Wow, this says it all in the title: Sore Winners: Christian Group Offended by Mississippi Businesses That Won't Discriminate Against Gays

I don't see the problem. Let people vote with their wallet. If you want to shop at a store displaying the sticker, more power to you. Want to shop somewhere else instead? More power to you. Freedom is a good thing.

You know, I don't really care that much if someone is religious. If it's what makes you happy, then good for you. But don't use your religion as an excuse to be a dick to others. That's not freedom of religion, that's finding an excuse to be discriminatory and you can't hide behind the veil of religious freedom to do it. It insults those who genuinely care about and believe in their religion.

What you call "being a dick to others" could also be "keeping to your religious principles". All in the eye of the beholder.

I have no problem with a campaign of stickers, that way each person is free to choose whatever way they like. Freedom is good.

Hmmmm The fact you felt the need to mention this, it appears that you were butthurt by the comments concerning atheists.

Not being ok with people using their religion as an excuse to treat others as lesser beings is not "being butthurt", it's being American. In this country we believe in equality of all men, not just those who don't do the icky buttsex or who believe in the god I believe in.

aww a deep thinking actor. A person who reads lines others wrote for him, and does whatever someone else directs him to do.

That's his day job; most of us have them. It doesn't preclude us from having knowledge about other things.

Why is the opinion of Bruce Willis any less valid than yours?

Who the hell are you?

Strange how businesses run by religious bigots aren't in a hurry to display signs and stickers supporting this kind of discrimination at their establishments, isn't it?

Freedom is a good thing, so why aren't all these poor victimized christians exercising their freedom to serve only those whom they approve of?

Glad you don't see a problem though, those christians would probably be happy to hear how you think their behavior doesn't actually contradict the precious religious ethos and morals they constantly advertise. Nothing escapes you Poker, you're like a sieve.

As usual, reading comprehension is not big on here. Go back and read exactly the comment I quoted. Please note no where did I mention anything that should result in you trying to lecture me on something I didn't type.

Self-Righteous Bigots vs Self-Righteous Bigots.

I'm sure every thinking person here would love to listen to you explain how proudly displaying an anti-discrimination sign in favor of gay equality is "bigotry". Have at it, hoss.

I don't see the problem.

You don't see a problem with the mental contortions it requires to take the statement "We're not going to discriminate against the LGBT demographic" and equate it to "We're going to violate the religious freedoms of Christians"?

Would you like to elaborate on the logical equivalence of the two, since it seems you "don't see the problem"?

Businesses shouldn't discriminate. I think anyone using religious pretext to force someone to do so is wrong.

Then there was a vid about a North Korean who had escaped to the South. Just about everyone who met him shunned him. The police watch him. He's scorned, a pariah and discriminated against. It was so bad he tried to go back to the north. It's really horrible how he and others like him are treated. Oh, the only place where he is accepted was where the vid started, in a Korean church. The secular world rejected him. The government acts as if he's some hidden spy. Only at the church. So the comments about the video? They were complaining how stupid religious people are and mostly mocked them. That was so enlightened, eh? They ignored the problem, and one which is every bit as real and in some ways worse. Of course beating up the Christians was the important and right thing to do.

So yeah, one self righteous group of bastards vs another. What a choice.

You know the old you're a bigot because you point out my bigotry argument. Its really a pretty pathetic one, but one that is trotted out repeatedly around here.

It seems homophobes and racists don't like being called what they are.

-snip-

I don't find it strange at all. I assume they're like the rest of us and are in business to make money.

BTW: I think the stickers are a good idea.
