Just read a news article on http://www.zdnet.co.jp/news/0111/28/winmx.html . Copy that link and paste it into Babelfish. Translate Japanese to English with babelfish .

Two students were arrested after sharing Adobe Photoshop 6.0 Jap edition and other business softwares on P2P WinMX (for some reason WinMX shows up as WincMX..). Looks like Japanese law allows copy right infringement enforcement over P2P sharing.

What is the legal status of peer to peer sharing in USA?

I misspelt babelfish in the link  should work now sorry...

People are sharing commercial software that they didn't legally purchase; it's against the law. What else is there to think about?

but does this trickle down to things such as music, moives, and other things?

and if so, how long would it really take to trickle down here in the US?

It's already trickled down. Maybe you remember a little program called Napster from not too long ago.

I really don't understand what the big deal is. If you download a song, movie, software, or any other copyrighted material off of a peer to peer program then you are breaking the law. If you don't want to be bothered by the notion of the Feds raiding your home and taking away your computer, then don't do it.

There was a big bust nationwide 1 or 2 months ago here in US.
