It honestly isn't taught enough that the only legal-means of communication is via mail.

If you haven't received something via mail (or in-person via served legal docs) that is officially from the source (e.g. Debt Collector, Social Security admin, Credit Card company, etc...) then you can be rest assured there is nothing occurring.

You wouldn't believe that people of all age groups get the energy savings, lower credit card bills, Social Security and lower interest on credit cards calls. We get these calls more frequently thank you think. Except these predators prey on senior citizens and elderly more frequently.

Too lazy to search for the story at the moment but at one point I discovered my mom (RIP) had purchased several box's of "special" garbage bags for $50 each to "support charity" from some ass-clown who cold-called her.

30 seconds on Google revealed it was 100% scam and 0% charity of any kind... however we know how likely it is that most old folks would know how to do this.

Needless to say I shut it down but it was still upsetting for her and I. I did the best I could to be tactful but mom tried to hide it and was obviously embarrassed.

Insult to injury they were not even quality bags and were essentially unusable.

Anyone else get this call?

Who falls for this BS and why do scammers use such bad English.

What are these things you refer to as "calls" ?? :p

Seriously ... calling me these days is a waste of time even if you are in my contacts. If you want to speak with me send an email or text.

I put a passcode on my number. If it's not entered, the caller gets disconnected. Don't even hear a ring nor see any evidence of a call. This way if the phone rings I know it's someone I need to talk to. ;)

There's so much scams now days I feel skeptical even when it's NOT a scam lol.

My rule of thumb is I treat everything that comes at me as a scam. Whether it's a phone call, postal mail, email, etc. Something like postal mail or email I have a bit more time to research so I'll double check if I feel it sounds legit, but a phone call I will just hang up.

Who falls for this?
I’ve won something from Walgreens for not having been there in years.
They know the other people’s names why not mine?
Why is there no image attached?
Why is this coming from a strange looking web address?
Why not tell me what I’ve won?
Why would Walgreens send out such a basic ghetto looking email?
And it’s four out of five not three out of five.

Scammers are just so lazy.

It must be working on somebody or they would try something else.

Unfortunately MANY people (especially here in America) literally are dumber than a bag of rocks.

I just think it is super cheap to do as in so many people can be reached for such a minimum cost. The scammers are basically amateur sales people, going for the broadest prospect set they possible can and spending zero time developing a system that works.

I agree ... they take the same approach as a guy in a club asking every woman there for sex with the idea that sooner or later ONE will accept!

I knew two of those guys. One was unbelievably successful at it. The other was a moron that banged a bunch of fat ugly women. I remember one literally looked like broomhilda the witch.

As a sales guy who used to rely on low prices and high volume, I have learned it is much better to spend time developing a good system that works. Sell value and need, use trigger points/fear (what if’s) to over come objectives.
If I were a scammer and assuming I was out of the country. I would spend money getting someone really good at English to craft the message. There would be no chance I’d call a credit card “your plastic card”.
I would study Walgreens emails, graphics and logos. I would pay a guy good money to create emails/web pages or whatever that look & feel like they came from Walgreens. I would put a compelling and relevant item in the email, like click here for your chance to win a PS5 or XBox whatever your choice!

AT&T has some spam blocker that catches a lot of it. Right now I get a lot of the Car warranty ones and occasionally the Chinese scammers.

For some reason I was recommended a video by a spam baiter on youtube. Well that was quite the black hole I went into. Pretty amusing stuff. They mainly deal with the tech support scammers, a couple I watched:

Kitboga - YouTube
ScammerRevolts - YouTube

They are pretty crazy the lengths they go to, like talking to them for over 10 hours, or somehow getting access to their computers and deleting all their files.
