Never knew I'd see the day that I'd be getting army recruitment mail. Can't wait for the phone calls... :disgust:

They don't call private numbers right? :)

lol nope, and OP here's a suggestion, when they finally call you up tell them you've joined the Air Force. Say that you've already gone to MEPs and are now in the DEP (Delayed Enlistment Program) and are just awaiting to go to Basic Training. They shouldnt call you after that, it worked for me but thats cause it was true, they didnt bother me after that.

they called me a LOT

i just told them i was going to college

then they said they have great programs for scholarsips

i told them i wanted to go college first

then they said they have great programs for college students with degrees

then i told them i feel i can help the USA in more ways than through the military

then they told me how much more i can help through the army

then i told them I really don't like war in general...and that would b the end the discussion

then they would wait 2 weeks or so before calling me

rinse and repeat about 3x until they get the point

====

btw they are also REALLLY shady...they nearly got a friend of mine to join - they told him how "low" his asvab score was when in reality he did really well [he only got the score at the end, but i heard the test was a joke anyways]. They actually never stated what his score was, rather they just alluded to a "low score"....in fact thankfully it was his mom who ripped him out because they tried to get him to sign without talking to his parents;
fast foreward 3.5 years and hes a chemical engineer with well over a 3.6 GPA and thinking about the medical field right now.

so be careful - they'll feed you their side of the story...

My high school forced us to take the ASVAB. Different branches of the military called me about 5 times a week. I was always very polite and I told them that my older brother had been in the Air Force for about 15 years. They said thank you for your family's committment to armed services and politely hung up. They never pushed anything on me.

Never bothered me.

Have fun... just tell them "No" and hang up otherwise they'll be going on and on about nothing.

Odd. I don't remember every getting any mail or calls when I was in HS about recruitment.

Maybe they knew I was partying too much with friends? j/k

Two or three times a year, since I turned eighteen, they've given me a call. They talk friendly at first, then when you hesitate, they resort to cursing & petty threats. These guys seem like they're under alot of pressure to sign kids up.

I remember my friend wanted to join the Marines, so I went to the recruitment office with him. They split us apart almost immediately so I was useless, and just because I had to be there and was in college I asked about the officer programs. They just tried to get me to enlist no matter what I said, "called" the chief doctor at MEPS to say that what I heard about my medical disqualify was wrong, and all the while I was completely trashed and reeked of booze. I nearly had double-vision the entire time I was there. My friend hadn't told me he wanted to go that day and pulled me from a party.

They aren't so bad but their methods are thinly vieled and kind of fun to mess around with.

I just told them (truthfully) that I had already committed to a college and never got another call.

OP. Everyone gets the recruitment bit, you are not special. There is also no way the military would accept you so don't give it another thought.

The ASVAB used to be part of the public school system's battery of standardized tests. Every HS junior/senior was required to take it.

Nothing wrong with it, nor is there anything wrong with joining the armed forces. If you don't want to enlist, or be commisioned, politely say no and end the conversation. The Marines, Air Force, and Navy won't call back. The Army will call back a few times, but they need people right now.

Oh, once an individual turns 18, they don't need parental consent to join the armed services. magomago's friend had to be under 18. Also, any forms you sign in a recruiters office are pretty much meaningless. You will sign the real forms and such after a trip to MEPS (I think its still called MEPS), where a complete physical is given, etc, etc, etc. Those are the legally binding contracts.

I used to fly into Frankfurt, Germany with a lot of recruiters on civilian aircraft. We'd have a few drinks and these guys would start swapping stories of all the lies they told kids to get them to enlist. I believe that they really felt bad. Apparently they were under great pressure to meet certain numbers.

You can do what my brother did, just tell them you joined the Coast Guard. I sat down with a recruiter at school and talked about the various options. They left me alone after that and it only took about a half hour out of my lunch.

Oddly enough I only ever heard from the Marines The recruiter called a few times and was always very nice and polite. After I explanied why I wasn't interested at the time he left me alone.

*shrug*

The Marines wouldn't have really wanted me anyway (I weighed about 120lbs and was about 5'2" at the time). I wouldn't have been real useful unless they were looking for tunnel rats or something.

They never called me that I recall... :confused:

Then again when I turned 18 there wasn't a war going on.

Army guys just wont leave me alone. Even more so now that I've almost got my nursing degree. Geeeeezzzzzz they are like that would be the ultimate resume thing to say you were a nurse/first responder in Iraq. I'm like yea I'll just stick to inner cities hospitals, close enough for me.

I'm not complaining about taking the ASVAB. Being that I was planning on going to college, I would not have taken it unless I was forced to.

If you're not interested, just say you don't want to waste any more of their time and you're going to put the phone down. Then do it.
