I am using the Win XP driver for my aiw x800xt instead of the media center edition ones. Is this causing a problem?

There is Windows XP and Windows XP Media Ed.
Having an AIW card dose not mean that you use the Media Center drivers because those are for another type of Windows, and not special drivers for AIW cards.

In that case I would recomend that you use the MCE drivers but it would be interesting if you would do a before and after benchmark that way we could all see if it makes a difference.

I thought the only difference between the standard XP driver and the XP MCE driver was the ATI Media Center Edition Extension.

I think MCE is the dumbed down version of XP. I think this because it always seems to be cheaper than XP home or pro. BUT it is supposed to be geared towards Multimedia and HTPC's. Dell is offering a lot of Inspiron Laptops with this OS as standard. If you want HOME or PRO, it costs extra. Dunno

I think he's referrig to the differences in the drivers not the differences in the OS. I believe the ATI drivers for MCE allow different resolutions, 720p and 1080i being the big ones.

I've been sort of following this thread for a while and now i'm curious. I have a AIW X800XT too and I'm using the XP drivers, but my monitor is a 23" LCD HDTV that is 720p and 1080i compatible. Can I and should I be using the MCE drivers?

I'm not sure if it would let you, you can certainly try. I know on my MCE box, it gives me options like 1360x768 which I don't believe are options in the normal ATI drivers, but I could be wrong.

uhh...you can't really segregate users that use windows xp from not being able to play if they don't have Media Center edition. most people own XP
