I completely forgot all about them! I have one week to start studying, and I'm wasting my time on ATOT. I need a life.

I'm taking calculus, english language, english literature, and psychology. I took statistics last year - it was the easiest of the four (in fact, the easiest ever).

Oh, in that case, go get wasted the weekend before.

Considering they always made our prom the week before AP tests started, that's how it worked out for me and look at me now.

Studying for AP tests is pointless, if you know the stuff it's easy to just walk in and make a 4 or a 5.

Uh, why are you taking AP classes during your freshman year?

Honestly, these overachieving high schoolers make me sick. My HS (the highest-ranked public school in Michigan, mind you) didn't even OFFER AP classes for freshmen. I spent my freshman year taking easy classes, getting used to HS life, and having FUN. Have you ever heard of having FUN?

I can't say bad things because you've helped me too much with last years Chem stuff. :)

But yeah, wtf, Freshman taking Calc and Stats?

WTF?

What's the derivative of 4x^3 - 2x^2 ? And what's the integral of 4x^3 - 2x^2 ?

Bad things about what? :p I was trying to make this frosh have fun because quite frankly, I don't think it's fun to be taking AP courses as a freshman. I don't actually condone underage drinking (but obviously I don't oppose it ;)).

The first AP course I took was AP US History as a sophomore and that was the only one I took. I believe I took 2 my junior year and 3 my senior year. Doing more than that is pretty senseless. How do I know this? Because I took only those and I received 30 credits at my college, the equivalent of a year's worth of courses. You really can't opt out of more classes than that folks.

Have some fun while you're in high school. Go out with your friends, cause some trouble, chase the girls, etc, etc.

and how do you know this? I'll have 72 credits and my college is letting me opt out of all but two of my GE classes. plus I'll have most of my elective credits taken care of.

How the hell did you forget about APs? Back when I had to take them my teachers stressed the date every day in class. The week of May 12th was to be feared.

what are you opting out of? most universities won't let you get out of anything other than the basic stuff like us history I, european history, your basic english courses, maybe some intro stat stuff, up to multivar calc, etc.

This is coming from a person in the Science dept. of my university so I'm speaking in that respect. I'm not sure how it works for other types of degrees.

Plus, if you get more than a year's worth of credit, you're probably going to graduate in less than 4 years. This might be good on your wallet, but it certainly devalues a lot of your education. College is 30% education and 70% social IMHO.

Well, couple thoughts on this - I took three AP classes at my high school, all that they offered besides AP Calc (oh, how I wish I'd taken that at a community college). Didn't study for the AP tests, got 3s on all of them, and I don't really care that much now. Seeing as I'm having problems having too MANY credits at the Univ. of WA, I couldn't care less how I did on the APs.

There really, truly is something to be said for taking your time in high school. I was a band geek for eight years and I don't regret a second of it, though it did take up large amounts of time. Likewise for part time jobs - I've worked since I was 11, despite usually being in honors classes, and it was a balance between school work and work and extra curriculars that IMO helped me become who I am today. Would I advocate just dropping them? Obviously, no. If you're smart enough to be studying the material, then study it! There's nothing worse than achieving below your potential.

However, don't push yourself too hard. Remember to enjoy high school and your childhood for what it is (even though high school does suck once you look back), 'cuz once you start paying for tuition and paying bills, life gets much, much more complicated.

Cheers!

If you're really smart enough to take Calc as a freshman, you'll probably end up at a school that only takes a couple AP credits anyway. I ended up with 10 college credits for my AP courses. You know how many I can use? 2.
