Real Madrid will be even more of a power house now, but I wonder what they will do with their striker pairings, with Raul, Ronaldo, Morientes, and Owen. Will they go 4-3-3? I don't see it happening, but it would be interesting

Owen signing for Real Madrid makes no sense at all. Everyone knows Real Madrid's problems were on the defensive end. They cannot continue making Beckham play out of position as the defensive midfielder/ballwinner. They should have just put up the cash to pay Arsenal for Viera.

And I don't get why Morientes isn't guaranteed a spot on the team. The man is a Real Madrid legend but he's relegated to coming off the bench, which is pretty much what Owen will be doing.

Yeah wtf is Madrid's gm thinking? They have already enough offensive firepower. Besides, Owen is not even a first class striker such as Henry, Ronaldo, or Van Nisterooy. All he has is speed, and speed, thats about it. The only reason he scored so many goals for England is because England has always lacked good forwards. Hesky? that guy is trash, yet he got to start alongside with Owen for the last couple of years until they discovered Rooney. After the Euro, now everybody knows Owen is overrated.

Owen might have been overrated, because many considered him a god among men, however he is a HIGH quality forward. Speed counts, and despite a really poor showing at Euro, he still has more skill than most forwards out there. He didn't just score all those goals because there was no one else, it does take skill to get past world class defenders and goalies.

It's hard to believe that Owen is only 24, so his prime years are still ahead of him. Real Madrid are reinforcing the wrong areas. They need another defender and a defensive midfielder, and some extra squad depth, because when one of the galacticos gets injured, there's not much talent waiting to replace them on the bench.

rofl, you guys follow a British Football team?

Owen is a player that works well with certain players / by himself, but when he's working with anyone else on the pitch he's worthless.

He's gotten worse and worse since when he originally joined LP and, although he has a good bit of history in the club I really don't think it's that much of a loss, there are younger, more talented players than him now.

I still can't believe you guys follow english football, rofl.

I've *never* met anyone here that supports or follows any american football or baseball teams etc.

seems weird, but anyways, respect for following my team

The teams here suck. I want to watch good soccer (football...excuse my American names. This whole country seems to be retarded when it comes to sports)...when I watch European teams play, then American, its like comparing a Z06 to a Civic.

This move makes no sense! I think they did better with Walter Samuel. But then again they did get Owen for relatively cheap compared to Beckham. I was hoping Owens woulda stayed at Liverpool. I guess now Heskey has to pick up the slack LOL

Heskey's not even playing for Liverpool anymore. He's playing at Birmingham now. Liverpool's strike pair will be Milan Baros (impressive Euro 2004, but hasn't proven himself in the premiership) and Djibril Cisse, who was fairly impressive on the USA tour.

Owen's goal at the World Cup against Argentina is enough for me to always love the guy - even if he is no Shearer...

Is it true he has a huge gambling problem?

yeah i think he had a gambling problem when he was around 21 when he though he had endless amounts of money. but i dont think it was a large sum of money its just that he was making stupid bets. i think his family straightened him out afterward.

I think Baros has always shown good skill im most of his 1st squad games but Gerrard will once again be the reason Liverpool does well or finishes 4th. If he plays the way he did last year and the people around him play as good as they can, they should be ok, even without Owen.
