WTF? Why even discuss it with your wife. I would have told her absolutely not and taken the boots back myself and gotten better ones.

Hmm... That isn't how rats were dealt with when I was in school...
The rats, we bit. The homosexuals, we sodomized. We liked ironic punishments. We put a lot of work into finding out who was gay because we liked punishing them so much, and they seemed to enjoy the punishment. It was a lot of fun.

Telling on someone is a bad idea unless they're physically abusive. The teacher can't really do anything if they're just talking.

I'm not going to beat around the bush here. Your wife sounds stupid and you are weak. You should have put your foot down and avoided the whole mess.

Talk about feeling bad...my wife was 'shocked' that he got picked on...and appears to be in some disbelief still that it was even conceivable because the boots didn't seem 'that bad'.
You've gained enough ammo in this single episode to have immediate veto power over any future purchasing decision your wife makes for your son because "he'll get picked on." She buys him a set of culottes? Bully veto. She questions you? "That's what you said about the boots." BAM, done.

This. You put your foot down and just say NO. Throw them out, or return them giving her no choice. It's better to have a grown up argument then your kid feeling terrible.

Agreed

And if she tries to whine about it again, unzip and stick it in her mouth. Can't talk with a full mouth.

Problem solved

OP sacrificed his son to win an argument with the wife. The OP should have been more secure in his argument without having it proven by his son's tears. It seems the OP does not wear the pants in his family.

Not that I am going to win this discussion because in the end I wish I could have. The sequence of events that led to this happening this morning were possibly avoidable yet noticed.

Kid's primary boots were sopping wet on the inside and no one put them on the boot warmer to dry them out the night prior.

I wasn't aware of the boot purchase until about 5 minutes before the bus arrived...the whole argument was over in 2 minutes and yes I buckled because I didn't want to have to deal with the kid missing the bus and the shit storm that would have ensued after that.

The kid got new boots tonight, straight black with no frills.

He has a younger brother so the two of them together can generally take care of themselves against any kid their size if they had to if it ever came to that in the general sense on a playground.

After the whole ordeal with him coming home, it did make my wife realize that kids are cruel at that age and that future purchases should be screened :)

Dude, please tell me that your wife mistakenly bought girl boots thinking they were for boys. No way, those could be boy boots.

As opposed to purposely buying girl boots thinking they were for boys? :colbert:

Your wife is way too innocent and/or naive.

Have you tried butt secks? That oughta straighten her out.
