That's what I said when I realized just now) that the reason that I've not been able to login as anything but root (or even su) on my soon-to-be servers was because the permissions for / (root directory) was 700, drwx------. Two days on that! Why the hell did the Redhat 7.0 installer let that happen? I thought it was going before that though.. like an update did it. I was about to re-install..

Something to do with software raid maybe? The system is two md devices, an md0 RAID 1 for /boot and md1 RAID 5 for the rest.
