OH MY GOD - Man's penis removed in surgical error

This is the worst thing ever

Aug. 11? After 67-year-old Hurshell Ralls went into surgery for bladder cancer, he came out of surgery missing more than he ever expected. His penis and testicles were gone.

"My wife had to hold my hand in the bed there. And she said 'Honey it's over. They got all the cancer.' And she waited a few minutes and then said 'But they had to remove your penis.' And I was one mad dude, you know," Ralls said on ABCNEWS' Good Morning America.

Ralls, a mechanic, says doctors never warned him or his wife that amputation of the penis and testicles might have been part of surgery before he went in for the procedure in November 1999. Ralls filed a negligence lawsuit against the Clinics of North Texas in Wichita Falls, and the doctors who operated on him. The civil case is set for trial Aug. 25.

Tough to tell for sure, but it SOUNDS like an error, since he apparently did not have cancer in his penis and was misdiagnosed.

Holy crap...this is beyond words! :Q

I'm sure on page 492, paragraph 3, sentence 34 of the release documents he had to sign, there's a clause stating "...and possible removal of reproductive organs in order to facilitate ease of surgery..." or something like that.

Damn lawyers. Oh...Sorry, Don_Vito. :D ;) j/k Don't sue me.

I hope he wins a healthy settlement. He's too old toreally enjoy it, but maybe his kids/grandkids can.

Does it say there was no cancer in his penis in the article you linked? For some reason that link crashes IE on my comp.

In a February deposition, Ralls' doctor said that he determined the cancer had spread to the penis while he was removing Ralls' bladder. Doctors did not send a tissue sample to the lab until after the surgery. A Dallas doctor who examined cell slides later found that Ralls did not have penile cancer.

Believe it or not, penises are good for things other than reproduction. I imagine I will be one horny 67-year-old one day.

Had to reread that a few times, for some reason I was thinking that you were saying he was to old to enjoy his penis and balls but his kids/grandkids can and was was about to say WTF.

He won't get much. The court weighs total loss as to its value. If a doctor kills someone or harm them like in this case, a very young person and old person will get the least. Now a white male with a college degree in his late 20's to early 40's would get the most. They take into account, would they have children, lose of work, etc....

My dad was in a motorcycle accidnet and got 200K. I will probable get more out of my motorcycle accident as I am in my late 20's have a college degree, and will want to have children one day. My dad is late 50's early 60's so he is past his prime earning years, has no college education, and will not have any more children. That is how most cases get their value from.

They also removed his blader, so his penis would have not been in use for peeing anyways that I can see.

Won't be able to whiz standing up anymore.

And, esp. since the tissue sample taken AFTER the surgery showed no cancer in his penis...oh yeah...serious lawsuit!
