Monsoon MH505 and Asus A7N8x Deluxe onboard audio solution (soundstorm)

Wow! That's all I can really say.

So...how do I setup winamp 2 to use kernel streaming?

Short answer: you don't.

Long answer: You don't. Doing so requires very good hardware(nForce doesn't qualify, sorry), and anyone with such hardware already knows all about KS/quality playback and won't be using Winamp for music. If you care enough about music enpugh to have invested in a premium soundard, you also care enough not to use Winamp. It's internals are inferior, regardless of output method.

I believe you can if you have a sound card that supports ASIO. You need the ssrc plug-in and you have to set it ASIO output. The Winamp MP3 decoder actually became a very compliant decoder actually after they gave up Nitrane. I don't know if they messed it up again though. There is a website that has done an exhaustive comparison of MP3 encoders and decoders. It is very likely that 64-bit floating point decoder that foobar uses is superior to any other decoder out there, but I haven't seen a comparison yet. Someone on the foobar forums says that via ABX testing he couldn't hear a difference between MAD and Foobar's decoder. MAD was considered very good by that aformentioned comparison. I trust the comparison as it was a university based experiment with some good methodologies. If I can find it, I will post it here.

Yes. Which eliminates every AC97 card but the Audigy/A2. BUT, the Audigy's half-assed ASIO support means that KS via ASIO on Winamp will ONLY work with files encoded at 48kHz. That means no CDs at all, and if you want to listen to MP3s you will need to re-encode them at 48kHz. The artifcts introduced by such a process will negate any benefits. And aside from all that, there's more reasons than KS why foobar is superior.
