Puppy mills and the like shouldn't be allowed to exist, or at the very least, they need to be monitored and regulated much more than they are now. I think that when inspectors or whoever go to check them out, most mills have advance notice. Dogs are basically bred to death. And because people keep insisting on getting their dog at the pet store instead of at the animal shelter, the industry still exists. :(

The area of the state this happened in is the middle of freaking nowhere. It is strictly Deliverance country and I'm sure a blind eye gets turned to these puppy mills and I doubt they are ever inspected. That part of Oklahoma is called "Little Dixie" and it really lives up to it's name. It's the most backward, racist, inbred, corrupt place you would ever want to visit.

Guess I won't be going to work for the Oklahoma Tourism Department anytime soon.....

This might have been on 20/20 or Dateline. Some guy snuck in to one with a hidden camera. There are dogs that are blind that are simply used for breeding. The food is infested. In some cases, the dogs nails have grown into the pads of their paws because, for one they aren't allowed out of their cage and because of simple neglect. If you look on the web at some rescue sites, you'll read about all these heartbreaking stories of dogs that have been rescued from mills that have been so abused, but they still manage to love people despite it.

I never knew about these places. Very sad that the dogs are treated so poorly. Also sad that they all died horrible flaming deaths. :(

If you buy a dog that's AKC registered from a pet store, is it likely to have come from one of these puppy farms?

A few years ago the Ag Barn at our local high school burned down, killing a lot of pigs and sheep. It was due to an electrical problem. A few animals managed to escape due to the courage of a few passers-by, but there were still a lot of very sad FFA guys the next day. :(

Kinda off topic, but I wish there were farms like that where I could make babies all day to sell, heh.... Of course, I only want to put out quality kids, so the mothers will be recruited.
