I always thought I had good memory. Unfortunately, I missed an exam this past wednesday. I did not attend class for 1 week (was busy trying to finish my NAFTA paper).

Well, in the syllabus, it said there will be 3 semester exams. Hence, I thought the third will be the final. Well, I take a look closer at the syllabus (apprently, he misprinted and put the last 2 weeks on a total new sheet of paper)

Well, to my surprise, my 3rd exam was on Nov 28!

Ok, thank-you for letting me vent.

Dude, you should so not have to take a zero on it. It's not like you purposely missed it because you didn't know the material or something. You were simply working on something else and forgot.

Here's one that'll make you feel a bit better...

Last year my thermal physics prof told the class that the midterm would be sometime after our reading break (spring break). I didn't go to the class just before the break, and apparently he told everyone when it was going to be in that class. I didn't study for the test, and then thought that I'd better go to the first class after reading break to find out when the midterm was. I walked in 5 minutes late and guess what? Yep, it was midterm time. I didn't do too badly considering I didn't have a calculator and had to resort to long division and estimating square roots... hehe.

My respect for you just went up :) At W&M, we have the oldest honor code of any college...we can take our exams and leave the room, go sit out in the lawn where Jefferson used to study, etc, etc...for you to say that you will not lie, or provide an 'excuse' is totally honorable, sir...I respect you :)

I'm assuming you're in college. Just go say you forgot ... Sh|t happens ... people forget stuff. Just talk to the professor and tell him/her that you screwed up, and you'd like the opportunity to take the test at his/her convenience.

... or just tell him you took it and get pissed when you don't get one back when they hand them back to the class.

Wow, that's really crazy. I can't even imagine being able to leave the room while in an exam. I see a lot of cheating on exams at my university, and that's with the prof in the same room!

Oh, and that was a pathetic, half-assed attempt at a vent. Common, have a real spray! Let it loose. You'll feel so much better. :)

no, really, I screwed up...

After taking 8 classes this semester, I kinda burned out (its my last semester and now, I don't think I can graduate)...I stopped going to certain classes and....don't feel like studying any longer....

I thought I had this class in the bag; hence, I stopped going to class and worked on other papers.

Seriously, I can't do much but talk to professor and maybe, he can raise the value of the essay due Wednesday (yes, I'm working on it now)

I missed an exam or two in my day...many professors will gladly add it to the weight of the final exam...those '60% of your grade' finals can be killer, though :)

Using "I forgot" as an excuse for anything is lame. And if static used that excuse for his/her prof, he/she would get my respect only if they pulled out the grade book or sheet and marked the big fat "0" in front of him. "Sorry your honor but I forgot about my court date because of the other things going on with my life."

Two thumbs up for static for biting the bullet and laying it out flat. It was really pathetic how some of my classmates would try to get project extensions, make up missed homeworks, or just get more time to slack before having to do something. Pathetic, downright pathetic.

once I woke up early and didn't feel like going to class...
so I surfed the net for a while until I got bored and decided to goto class 45minutes late.
got to class and nobody was there... completely empty.
then I started thinking, usually when class is cancelled, people still hang around the classroom cuz they have nothing better to do.
and checked my syllabus... TEST TODAY!!!

well, I went to my test room about 55minutes into the test (1hr test) and wrote as fast as I can for 5 minutes.
note: prof was laughing when I walked in huffing and puffing with 5 minutes to go.

I think I got 12% on that test.

my final was something in the C's. :(

static, don't worry to much, that will just be detrimental to your situation. Just focus on what you need to take care of and don't quit. I'm almost in same situation ...

well, problem is, I am going to graduate this semester. Well, I am using the word "I THINK" "I MIGHT" "I POSSIBLE" now in my vocabulary

seriously, if I do not graduate, I am utterly screwed....I have a Euro trip planned, etc etc

wow some of u went to cool colleges...my profs. were always horrible about tests

one of my prof. for cell bio (mainly a soph. class but lotsa juniors took it too) placed an exam the day before the MCATs (she does it every year) and a lot of juniors who are in the class take the MCATs and she would say, well if u want to become doctors u should get used to a lot of work. Biatch.

i could go through loads of examples but dont want to...funny thing is that they were so evil about tests it caused some people who wouldnt normally cheat to start. some of the professors were so evil at times that one time at least half the class cheated...basically got caught...(there was a fire alarm pulled during the test and a lot of kids brought the test and books out with them and worked on it for the 10 minutes outside even in groups) and when it was brought to the administrations attention they just said taht there wasnt enough time to cheat so no point in doing anything. It was calc III with a book...uhm yeah...

i didnt bring my stuff out during the exam and did horrible on the test...oh well i still graduated so in the end it didnt really matter...just ranting =)

oh added one more- one prof. would give negative grades...haha that was horrible, one kid got a -15 on his calc II exam...haha...he became stupider by taking the class

Half the class cheated because "the university was so evil?" :) Yea, I agree; those universities that make you learn are, ugh, evil :)

I've missed a test or two in my day, and let me tell you, most profs are willing to at least not give you a zero. I would start studying for this test, and go with the truth (let him/her know that you are ready to take the test if you have to, but try to get a few more days to prepare). talk to your prof ASAP!! As long as this is the first time you've done this, I'm sure your prof will let you take some sort of a make up test or count the final extra, but be prepared for something significantly more difficult then the actual test if you get a makeup.

Also, meeting the professor face to face is the best way to go. I think it seems to work better when the prof. can see how distressed you are.

well, it is the last test (there is no final for the course)

I'm so SCREWED...I CAN'T BELIEVE I DID THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ALSO, I MISSED CLASS FOR TOTAL OF 1.5 WEEKS!!!!!

I'm sure, and I surely deserve it, he will reject any notion of weighting the paper more (its our final paper)

Man O MAN!
