Since the summer started I had this disgusting smell in my car whenever I turned on the AC. I hadn't been able to track it down anywhere in the engine bay (which smells absolutely disgusting because of squirrels pissing and crapping all over the engine, but it wasn't the smell.)

It smelled like rotten flowers + manure. Now considering I work in a Botanical Garden, I guess it was expected. I finally decided to go ahead and replace the cabin filter in my Jetta. Man, what a freaking difference. Right not there is absolutely ZERO scent coming from my AC.

When I took it out, it was moist with flower chips and had a strong manure odor. The new filter is a charcoal-charged filter, and it seems to be doing its job.

Now for my totally unrelated problem. ---

I am unable to open the hood on my car. The hood release seems to have lost its pull. I am not going to go insane over it, and will let the dealer fix it.

I am just wondering though, if my cabin filter was so messed up, is it possible that the Air Intake filter is also a flowery mess? Are there any other filters I can/should check?

Better suggestion: sell it. Haven't you had numerous problems since day 1? We warned you not to get a VW ;)

Pretty much, your car has what? 7k miles now with a clutch problem, 2 cable problems, hood latch problem and in such short mileage, a lot of crap in your cabin air filter? Sounds like your car is falling apart. Either you are doing something unknowingly to your car that is damaging it, the VW was assembled and put together with a rare compilation of defective parts or a homologation of the 2, but get rid of it before it leaves warranty, if my car needed repairs 4x in 7k miles, it'd be gone.

lol yeah. It all started with the shifter linkage snapping at ~2000 miles and hasn't stopped. :) I still like the car very much, but yeah, it's getting annoying. I baby the hell out of the car too. Funny thing is, I'd probably get another VW. I've had way worse experience with my 96 Mistu Galant and 06 Honda Civic though.

I'll have them replace the air filter and do an oil change when they get it this time around, just for the heck of it.

You might want to check the lemon laws in your state. This many problems is ridiculous and you might be able to get them to buy back or even replace the car with a new one. I'd hope you wouldn't get another VW, but you can only lead a horse to water...

Lemon law would not apply .
lemon law applies to the SAME repair 3 times without a fix, not a bunch of different problems.

Perhaps in your state, but certainly not all. For example, in my state same repair three times is just one of the ways to trigger the lemon law-not the sole way.

It's important for the OP to check the law in HIS state.

Why would you like a car that is obviously unreliable when still so new? What is going on that all cars you have had exhibit so many problems? Bad luck?
