The previous round was the 500m semi final qualifying.... The USA and the Canadian's skater had a dead heat, so they both advanced into the semi final.... or final... not sure... ....
The race is short, fast, a lot can happen within so little time... It's really exciting to watch.

Forget the women, did you see the mens final? The top 3 guys wiped out in the final straight-away and the Australian in last place got the gold!

All I can say about the mens 1000m is BOOO...

Okay well Ill also say this, Apolo got robbed. The one person there that stood a chance of beating him was the guy that took him down... IMHO it should have been a reskate minus the DQ'ed guy. I mean they restarted the semi final 5000m relay, okay so the DQ'ed guy in that event was seriously injured but if I recall correctly the guy the DQ'ed guy took down, his team placed 2nd and moved on to the finals.

It's just as well they didn't have to reskate since Apollo was injured in the collision,
arrived at the awards ceremony in a wheelchair and limped to the podium. I think
he'd prefer a silver medal over a DNS in a potential re-skate.

"it should have been a reskate minus the DQ'ed guy. "

I agree, not sure what the rules are on this though. The commentators seemed to think they should reskate.

The aussie lost two races and won the gold because other people fell, what a cheap way to win. I hope the history books put an asterisk next to this result.

It is in the best interest of US that they didn't had a rerace, seeing how Apolo is in the condition he's in. The Australian won, and that's that, I guess it was just his night tonight :) Funny to see how Mathew threw himself at the line there, lol :)

The double-kick was very nice. ;)

I loved the look of total suprise on the face of the Aussie, it will probably take
him a few years to realize that he actually won that event.

He's (was, still is) considered a medal threat in 4 events. I don't know if this
was his first event or not to be completed.

Another funny bit to this story is that the Canadian guy needed 5 stiches to
close a cut on his ass.

just a quick note...we're all talking bout _short track skating_ not speed skating (aka long track skating). that'd confuse some folks at home since the speed skating women and men's 500m already completed earlier this week

short track=111m ring
speed skating=400m

Didnt realise he got injured but I was wondering why Apolo left the ice well before the offical results came in.. Doesnt appear to be that bad, and . Thats why they didnt reskate, the silver and bronze were both cut up. No doubt the 6 stiches will slow him down in the next event, how much, probably not enough for others to stand a chance. If the USOC lets him skate, he'll win unless someone takes him down again. He should have had 4 golds, now he'll have to settle for 3 and a silver.
