UToday, I helped someone move. I was doing it for free, as she is a friend of mine, and her husband (by all practical means...they weren't married, but only because they didn't believe in marriage) died a couple months ago, in the middle of their new home renovation. We have been renovating her home, and today was moving day. We were at the old house, and picking up the last things. When we got everything in the truck, all that was left was SEVERAL boxes of books. Hundreds, if not thousands of books. I asked her where she wanted them, and she just seemed really bothered by them. She just didn't know what to do with them. DEFINITELY didn't want them in the new house. She was talking about giving them away or maybe trying to donate them to something... I glanced down and saw some Michael Crichton books, and I said "OOH! If you don't have any plans for those Crichton books..." and she interrupted me, saying "TAKE them." Then we discussed it a little more, and she decided that the best, easiest thing for her would be if I would just ake ALL of the books, pick the ones I want, and do something with the rest. SO I DID. And let me tell you, they were some WONDERFUL WONDERFUL books! Practically every book by every best-selling fiction author.... Crichton, King, Turow, Rice, Clancy, Grisham, Puzo, Michener, Harris, Clavell, EVERYONE. I'm talking complete works on a lot of these. --And also a wealth of anthropology books, math theory books, Umberto Eco books, philosophy.... EVERYTHING! AMAZING! I just want to sit down and start reading them ALL! VERY cool. I'm very happy. Now I need to buy some bookcases. :)

[UPDATE: I found out today that those books belonged to her "husband", and I have actually more or less "inherited them". That is a GREAT honor, I tell you, because that man was one of the most brilliant visionaries I ever met. World traveler, accomplished architect and eduacator. She told me today that he would be SO GLAD to know how thrilled I was about those books, because he read every one of them cover to cover, and he would be so proud to see someone else picking up where he left off. I promised her that I, too, would someday read them all, and thanked her again. Amazing.]

Nope... The books that I didn't want were mostly architecture books.... Strengthening materials, principles of metal fabrication, etc....
