Actually, TA installed just fine, but the Core Contingency expansion is a no go. Says the setup.exe file in not compatible with Vista and to contact the vendor for an updated file.

Anyone have success getting this installed under Vista? I'm wondering if I can just install under Win2k on my retro gaming rig and then copy the files over?

I never delete my game directory, at least not since windows 2000. I run my media and games off of one drive, and reinstall windows on another. If you copy the TA game directory from a PC that has it installed correctly over to your Vista machine, it will run fine. Also, you can do what I did and never delete it, ever again.

I love games that allow you to painlessly migrate their install directories from one machine to another.

Just make sure to back your disks up on a RAID or something... :D

Good to hear. I actually installed TA on my C: drive last time due to the installer and all the updates pointing to the default directory under XP. I wiped my C: drive but my games drive is still intact. Looks like I'm going to have to do the Win2K route and just migrate the files over. Perhaps I'll throw that directory onto a DVD this time :).

I bet the installer is a 16-bit program. This is apparently a somewhat common issue with pre-2000 games. The games themselves are 32-bit and work fine, but the Installshield installers are sometimes 16-bit and won't work at all on Vista 64.

Install it on WinXP. Move the files/folders over to Vista x64 using the same path the game was installed under. After that go into the WinXP registry and export the TA registry entries. Modify them for the Vista x64 registry path and import them into Vista. I've done this plenty of times with my games.

You don't need to do anything with the registry, though. All you need is the game directory and your TA disk in the drive.

You guys can also play TA Multiplayer on as many PC's as you want on a LAN game with only one disk. You just need the disk in the drive to join the game lobby, then you can eject it and put it in the next PC you're going to join the lobby with. Just repeat this until every client is in your game lobby chatting and shit, then start the game!

Actually, you don't need to do even that. I think only the host needs a CD. I have been playing it over Hamachi with some friends during the last few months and we never needed more than one CD.

Hammer strikes nail on head. Total Annihilation told me there wasn't enough disc space to install the game to as well...on a 500GB drive with 350GB of free space :).

Run the setup executable in WinXP compatibility mode.
