Oh Intel...

I was recently informed by my coworkers that Intel has heard our Futureshop (Best Buy) location plugs AMD computers far too much.

So Intel will from now on be periodically be sending in 'undercover' reps to test us if we push AMD products. I am from now on only allowed to say 'I have an AMD in my computer'. I can't talk about how AMD is faster, cheaper, etc.

If I'm caught plugging AMD I can be fired and Intel will 'punish' my store. What punishment means, I don't know, but I can tell you I hate Intel more than ever.

Tell the truth and when you're "fired" sue their as*! 🙂

That's not right. But then again, since when have Intel and Microsoft not pushed their products down everyone's throats?

Don't worry, I'm not abiding by the rules at all. I'm a Christmas temp, so if I get fired I don't give two sh!ts.

I sell 5 AMD computers for every 1 Intel computer.
We only sell two AMD laptops and I still manage to sell about 1:1 for AMD vs. Intel.

wtf? how is that legal?

I was thinking the same thing. Sounds like Intel is strongarming retailers. Best buy does not actually sell Intel persay they sell premanufactured products that contain Intel products. I am call B.S. Intel has nothing to benefit by strongarming BestBuy.

Yes they do you fruit. We sell less Intel HP units, then HP makes less Intel units and more AMD units, which means less Intel chips sold.

Duh.

Somehow I don't think it's Intel doing that, you really think that Intel has time to worry about every retail location and how much they push AMD? This is beyond the fact that Intel probably has no clue how much of their processors you sell at your location since they aren't directly selling to your store anyway. The supply chain is probably Intel -> Compaq, HP, etc... -> Futureshop store-wide contract -> Futureshop retailer. I don't really think that it's possible for Intel to have even the slightest clue about how much or how little you push their product. It's much more likely that this is coming from somewhere within the Futureshop organization as Intel products generally have higher margins than AMD ones. Not only that, but these people might actually have sale figures and people (e.g. managers) that can monitor what happens within their stores.

Actually, no... that couldn't be, Intel is the devil. They have black helicopters flying overhead right now over your house and monitor everything you've ever told a customer. By now they have an extensive profile on you and your AMD-promoting ways. You better watch out, I hear that MS does that with people who push linux too.

Obviously, you haven't paid much attention to the legal suit that AMD has brought up against Intel.
What the OP has mentioned isn't BS, & Best Buy isn't the only store they have targetted.

As much as i try to be unbiased, Intel is indeed a ****** evil company.

I work in computer retail, & OMGWTF, if they ever tried that BS there'd be a hellraising :|
I imagine it very well might happen soon though.

how can they punish your store? they can't. best buy sells no products from intel, they sell HP products that use intel, etc. best buy no longer sells intel mobo or processors.

If Microsoft can get sued for being a monopoly and hurting the competition
..
why can't AMD sue Intel for this and win?

that is wack,
i humorously imagine : you telling a customer (intel undrcovr) the amd chip will be more preferable since its cheaper and it plays games better ......suddenly the person has an assistant and they take you down and hancuff you while telling you your under arrest for promotion of amd blah blah..

Heretic! I said Intel is the devil! If I were a multi-billion dollar corporation I'd be very worried about one retail location that makes a few thousand sales in a year. I'd have several assassins camped out full-time in dark corners to shoot down any salesman that pushed AMD products.

you sure its intel, and not your store trying to pump up sales and profits using intel as a convenient excuse?

never worked retail, so im ignorant to how that all works.

They probably send in secret shoppers and give them a bunch of questions to fill out. Lots of companies do this.
