wow, no offense, but your wife is an idiot.

trashing books like that is a real shame. I wish I lived close by, I'd love to come by and take a look at what was there.

There is no Library here in my little town, ALL my neighbors are on the old side and about to bite it, and again in my condition and my wife working all the time now really no time and I am not physically able to do it myself.

It is a shame, but My hands are really tied and again you want them come get them for I would rather see that then what I am going to see when she comes home from work with alot fo these.

{b]Guys I am sorry. If more replies after this one need me to do so bare with me, I am really hurting right now. I will get to it at some point.[/b]

too bad you're in TN, i'd love to have that collection. >.<

if it really is hundred year old books and original printings of things like pinnochio, you're looking at giving away several thousand dollars.

Noooo what is she thinking?! She might as well burn them all if she's just going to throw away books :(

I concur with everyone else. Try to profit from this or at least preserve them for someone else.

Yea I would love to have them, but am in Cary, NC.

PLEASE DON'T THROW THEM AWAY!!!

Give them to a library or college. I am sure someone will pick them up real fast when you tell them their age. Maybe even get a tax write off.
Or sell them in a full set on eBay. That way 1 box mails all and you are done with them and get a little money.

Are you kidding me!!! If your wife wants to get rid of those books, send them my way. I will pay shipping!!!!

Throwing away books is one of the most atrocious horrific things a person can do. Especially such classics.

That stuff could have been worth quite a lot of money to book collectors BTW, although a good book is meant to be read not concealed. What a tragedy. :(

WHY??? It's a library full of classic and rare books. WHY would she even think about getting rid of them? What the hell is wrong with her?

She's a woman. There's no sense in trying to understand them.

Contact a library, get their mailing address.

Get UPS to pick up the books, I'll chip in on the shipping cost

Most, if not all, are not the oringnals. They are, like he has found out, to be worth $10-20. He might find one worth more but not enough to go overboard for.

Bingo!

Oh I knew posting this was going to put me in more pain then I want to be in so I nned to make this quick, haha.

I would love to keep/sell/ship these books. I am big time mentally and to physicaly messed up to ship these. My wife (who I still love reguardless) gets one day off during the week where she has to spend cleang the house, doing laundy she couldnt get to, and prepare stuff for me so I dont have to while she is at work. As much as I would love to ship these just at the cost of shipping we cant do, there is just no time and frakly my wife is doing enough for me I hate to put more on her. So I would love more then anything, not to see these go, but as many dont know you have to let a woman do her thing to keep peace. If I wasnt so fvcked up oh there wouldnt been one going out in the trash, but I am so tied and sit here going I tured into the exact person I loved to see have a garage sale.

I had to write this even in the ammout of pain I am in just so I can cleafy some of the pm's I am getting I cant respond to one at a time. Please understand our/my situation. I didnt mean for this to go this way. I trully wish I could of saved/done more but Im trying my best and dont you think for a minute I dont know there may be some gold in there I just cant find ATM.

I relly have to take a break now and hope that answed some PMs I have gotten on the books.

You want them your going to have to come hgere and get them, I am really, really, sorry.

Give these guys a call... they might even come down and get them... or arrange to have someone pick them up.

I've never dealt with them personally...but they have an excellent reputation from what I hear.

John K. King Used & Rare Books

On a side note: I'm impressed at the number of people that are willing / wanting to save these books. It's nice to see that in this day and age.

You could also try emailing some of the larger university libraries across the country (or maybe somebody here could help you do that) and see if they would be interested in accepting them in return for paying for their shipping costs.

BTW, I'm a woman and I would never just throw books like that out. ;)

What's wrong is that she's a typical woman (no disrespect intended...we all have one!) and only sees them as "clutter." To her, nothing "Old and dirty and sticky!" can be anything useful. She would like to rip out the whole library and put a daybed and some plants in there. Yup.

how sad.

but no shock really. not because she is a female. but because many people do no appriciate (or care) about classic/old/rare books anymore.

I nominate this thread to be sticked so that we can help him and his wife find a new home or homes for their old books.
