Well, here I am playing Diablo 2 after eating a huge Christmas meal. All was going pretty well, then suddenly in the background Trillian beeps and my PC freezes. Hard freezes, the first I have ever had on this machine.

I decide to reboot and the first time round i get a msg something like

'Page fault error, out of paging area' (or something like that

After a while nothing happens and it reboots and it then says ' bad pool error' and again reboots.

This time i went in to the bios to reset everything, saved and went to reboot.

Now - nothing.

I no longer have any video signal ( I have checked with 2 cards)
There is no post and sometimes I get a series of long beeps (which I would have associated with bad ram normally?)
There is no hard drive whir but the drives all light up

arghh!

Try running your system with only the bare essentials, the CPU, memory, and video card. If you have multiple RIMM's, try alternating the RIMM's. If your system will boot with one and not the other, you probably have a bum stick of memory.

I have to admit I am confused.

Occasionally the PC will boot as far as the bios screen. It comes up 'bad cmos, check sum'. perhaps because I took the battery out. However when i set everything up in the bios and reboot the PC wont boot (video signal on monitor stays amber)

I have switched the rimms and blanks with no joy. I suspect the memory or the mobo, I wish i knew which

I would point to the memory first, I'd try to get a couple RIMM's and throw them in there before you start thinking that it's the mobo. Merry Christmas!
