Alright so I was going to upgrade my E8500 to a Phenom II chip tonight. I got the new chip, board, and RAM in, and am re-using my 4870, HDDs, PSU, and case. I got the new parts in, the went to plug the computer in, and did a quick test power-on. I got fans and lights, felt satisfied, and powered down then unplugged the machine. After I got the rest of my peripherals attached and my cables sorted, I plugged the PSU back in and the light on the back of it won't even come on. I get no response from hitting the power button.

...So OK, my top-notch 2-year-old PSU may have fried itself? No worries, best buy had a decent modular one for $79, so I picked it up. Same symptoms. Then I tried re-installing my old parts with the new PSU. Same results.

WTF has happened? Did I somehow manage to break the power switch on my case? Even if so, why isn't my PSU lighting up? I am so pissed off at myself right nowconsidering this upgrade really wasn't even necessary.😀

edit: this was meant to be in the PC help section..sorry mods.

Had the power switch cord connected to the wrong header on the board. 😀

I'm still befuddled as to why the old PSU died. That was a high-dollar unit when I bought it.

Most PSUs I've seen with light on them aren't that great. I'm sure yours was a nice one though, too bad you had to replace it.

3rd and 4th cores now unlocked and stress testing with OCCT. A couple of the cores are a bit warm (66 and 72 degrees) but it's looking good so far.
