I think the price needs to come down before the public shows a general interest.
$29 for a new release is a bit much. Especially when you may watch it, what, maybe 3 or 4 times tops (if even that). I bought the new batman, watched it once, will probably watch it one more time again, then that will be it. By then it will no doubt be on HBO HD.

There is this site called Amazon.com. Supposedly its on teh intranets!

But I agree that prices need to come down in stores as well 😉
Keep in mind that what's on HBO HD is inferior to what you get on BD.

Thats the whole point.
To most HDtv viewers, it doesnt matter. HD is HD.
They wont get that savvy into the tech issue.

I was at walmart by the blu-rays and a family came strolling by and noticed the 'blu-ray" sign. "Whats that?", ask the lady to her hubby.
"Its just their new thing to get you to buy all new stuff", he answered.

I know a lot of people with new 1080p tv's from last Christmas, and none of them care to follow thru getting into blu-ray.
I offered to sell my old HD DVD player and 25 HD disc's to my sister very cheap, and she said "we already have most of those movies on DVD".
To most... its doesnt matter.

It doesn't matter because most don't know what they are missing. Do your sis a favor, and take your HDDVD player over to her place, and let her see the difference. She may not buy it, but I bet she sees the difference, especially if it's on her set.

If you want disk prices to drop, then spreading the word is the only way.

PurdueRy is right though, there are quite a few places online to get disks on the cheap if you look. The Dark Knight has been my most costly disk to date, and it was $21. $18 is my cut off price now. It used to be $16, but I had to raise it since the war ended.

I never found it impressive enough to buy a $200 player and rebuy a whole movie collection. Meh.

So don't. There is plenty of new material out there to keep you happy.

It's amazing how many people forget/don't realize how much screen size plays into the conversation. I've never seen anyone who uses a projector say that HD doesn't make much difference.

It's an entirely different conversation at 100 inches than it is at 32.

I get very, very annoyed at DVD quality, when watching on my 90" projector image, from 10' away.

DVD is OK on my 42" LCD from the same distance however... but HD is still much nicer.

Well, I'm sure it looks nice, but on a 21.5" screen I'd question whether you're really gaining THAT much over its DVD counterpart. An upscaled DVD on a PC hooked up to a 22" LCD looks really nice too..

At <2 ft away and higher than 720P resolutions I'm sure he can tell a difference.

Does that cheapness extend to non-family members?

I'm totally spoiled by BluRay (and Vudu's HDX as a matter of fact). I can scarcely watch DVDs anymore, and only if they're carefully cleaned up via AviSynth before watching them 😉
