I have a computer in the garage that I let friends use so they can write papers, check email, things like that. I never really use it. I was sitting here and thought I would check things out since someone started to complain the system was running slow. I was thinking things like defrag, but really shouldn't be a problem since Only I have admin rights on this and usually it is on guest account... no real problems, plenty of ram... but the HD is kinda crunched for space... Was thinking, hmmmm.... then i eventually check out the temp file for IE, and I had 79,995 files, totaling 700 megs, and there was a ton in the nt temp file too... not nearly as much, but DAMN! I coulnd't beleive it... It took like three minutes after I had hit delete for the hd to finish chugging.... Not much, but thought i would share...

You mean you're one of the few who doesn't just reformat every time a small problem crops up? If so, you're in a small minority around here!

I would hardly call that a 'problem'. Pretty standard to check temp internet files/temp files/cookies/my received files etc. It's when the registry becomes bloated that re-install is a wise idea. Since windows relies on the registry implicitly, a clean registry = snappy windows.

No sh|t, but check General Hardware, and you'll see the old FDISk and start over troubleshooting skilz applied to lesser 'problems'.

Go better. Go to the site that warns you of people spying on your computer and it says ot can protect you. Bonus!

The folder for Interet Explorer temp files indeed collects lots and lots of files - I am still surprized of the sheer size of it (I mean I knew IE doesn't store big files in the temporary folder). Well. time to clean the temporary folder of FireBird :D
Hmmm... 60 MB... I'll just forget about it
