Oh, crap! I'm living in a tent, and there's a typhoon coming this way!

Have to love this area of the world. Typhoon Rusa is bearing down on the Korean peninsula, and I'm either flying straight through it on Saturday (unlikely) or having to follow evacuation procedures to get out of the tent I've been in the for the past three weeks. My worst fear right now is that I'll have to ride a C-130 through tremendous turbulence and will end up puking all over the place.

Any hurricanes active in the Caribbean? Seems slow this year.

At least you are mobile and can head to a shelter.

I HATE hurricanes . . . although I only lived thru Iniki on Oahu.

The Atlantic hurricane season is later than the Pacific one . . . not really that many have brewed off Mexico either (6?) although S of Hawaii is active now.

Why in a tent?

Living in tent city for Ulchi Focus Lens, a military command and control exercise for the Korean peninsula. I have come to find out that it's the largest exercise deployment of military personnel in the world. It's been fun, but I'm ready to leave.

Turns out that I'm leaving on a commercial flight out of Seoul tomorrow morning so hopefully I'll miss the festivities with the typhoon.

Me too. We get days off of work when the base shuts down for typhoons. Since the houses in Okinawa are built like bunkers, we don't have to worry about the high winds, and it just ends up being a nice vacation with a lot of rain. Typhoon season ends in November -- let's hope we see a few more!

there was a teeny tornado in Michigan like 10 years ago. it was scary.



nothing exciting ever happens around here.......granted, that's not to say that I WANT a typhoon around here either.

hasn't been much severe storm activity here in austin this season either. kinda odd.

That's cool that you're in the armed services in Korea! Don't spew all over our aircraft though, buddy. Is it just me or have there been like, no hurricanes threatening the U.S. in 2 years?
