Ok, i previously had a Leadtek 6800GT in my comp (see below) and it worked great for 3 days. After that all of a sudden i had serious artifacting on bios screens and Windows. After about 15 seconds when it got to Windows the screen would flicker on and off (bad...). I sent it back to newegg, and being they had no more in stock they gave me my money back. I decided to go to my local BB and pick up the BFG 6800GT. Got it home and hooked it up, absolutly no problems. It worked great and was faster than my Leadtek (well it's oc'ed...).

But 2 weeks later when i'm playing BF: Vietnam i saw a screen lock up. No biggie, it only lasted about 3 seconds. I continued playing until i got another one about 5 minutes later. It lasted about 5 seconds this time. Finally, about 10 minutes after that i had artifacts on the bottom of the screen and it froze up. It wouldnt Ctrl-Alt-Del out of it, so i had to turn it off.

Well, now when i turn it back on it's fine. I try to play CoD instead of Vietnam, and it wont start up. Once again it wont get out of it and i'm forced to turn it off manually. Finally, when i turn it back on it looks fine. Bios screen is ok, windows loading screen is ok, but when Windows comes up...BOOM!...there are vertical dots going up and down, with little broken up wavy things on the bottom. Well there u go, it does that everytime i start it up now. But, it works fine in safe mode and other screens (once windows loads it gets messed up).

So i call BFG's "fantastic tech support" (well, it was fantastic after the 1 hour and 5 mintues of waiting on hold) and he walks me through some suggestions. After a while he just gives me a RMA # and i'm sending it in tomorrow.

So, i have fastwrites off, AGP set at 8x, 256 mb aperature size, and nothing overclocked. I am also using the official 66.93 drivers from nVidia.

Now, i'm thinking i'm either very unlucky when it comes to video cards, or that my PSU is screwing them up (posibly?). I have a Fortron 500w Blue storm, which is good and stable with dual 12v rails (15a on each, 30a combine). With the rails i have my fans (2x120mm and 1x90mm) and my BFG, and on the other i have my DVD-rom drive (errr...wait, they all might be on one rail but i doubt it, there's a mess of PSU cables up there). I just wondering if like...erm...that the rail connecting to my PSU is only at 15a? I thought that if you weren't using one that the amps were maybe, i dunno, transfered to the other rail to make it 30a?

Anyways, i'm wondering if i'm unlucky, if there's another problem, or my PSU is secretly assasinating my video cards...

Thanks for your help!;)

The DUAL (12V1 & 12V2) 15A combined still have 15A.
The 12V source only has a max of 285W.

3 CASE fans = 15W
DVD drive = 30W
CPU Fan = 5W

for a TOTAL of 50W giving you 235W for the Video.

It's not unusual to get DEFECTIVE components, either from the SAME MFG or others.
Quality control is surely lacking do to high demand.

ok, so it's probably just having bad luck with the video cards right? That's good to hear.

And 235w for the video is more than enough right?
