Oh boy, what did I do now... PNY 8200A mobo

VirtualLarry

No Lifer
I was in Staples, and they had some PNY motherboards on clearance for $48.50. They had two left and I grabbed them right away. The price tag had "matx" on it, which I took to mean micro-ATX, but the size of the box and the specs (PCE-E x16, 2x PCI-E x1, 3x PCI) indicated full atx. I later opened the box at home and confirmed it's a full ATX. The picture on the back of the box is micro-ATX though.

Not a big deal. What is a big deal, however, is that I cannot seem to google any support for this motherboard at all. PNY's web site no longer has any mention that they even sell motherboards. The box says that it has a three-year warranty, but that's really a one year with a two year extension if you register the mobo on pny.com. It also says to download the latest drivers on pny.com, but again, I cannot find the motherboard at all on PNY.com.

It's an AM2+ board according to the box, and I just want to update to the newest BIOS to be able to take as many CPUs as possible.

The model number appears to be MBM730A8200. or 751492-37553-3

Edit: Googling "site😛ny.com 8200" revealed a few hits, but no BIOS files.

You're sure they're PNY boards? I only ask, cuz to my knowledge PNY (or PNY Technologies as they are known nowadays) has only manufactured flash memory for RAM and other memory products. I don't recall any motherboards they have made...

If you could, I'd ask one of the employees at the Staples that you purchased these from and see what they can offer for advice...maybe the source they got them from might have some contact information for support...

About the only thing I can suggest is to slap a CPU on there and see CPU-Z says for motherboard details, maybe that'll help you find an answer

Post a good top-view photo of it. Around 800x600 with white-space cropped should suffice.

Its probably a rebranded board from Jetway, Foxconn, or other company.

You can still find the PDF manual of the PNY 8200 online on their website, though you need to google it.

Well here is some more dirt for you

This review on NewEgg for a completely different PNY motherboard

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-002-_-Product

claims it is identical to an ECS motherboard. No surprise here as PNY justs rebrands / remarkets other manufacturers products.

Now I have no idea if ECS even made a Geforce 8200 MB but you might be able to flash the BIOS if they did.

You keeping the photos a secret?

Sorry, forgot about this thread for a while. I'll dig out my digital camera and see what I can do. Gotta hook my NAS up too, to host the photos.

Edit: Try larzon.dyndns.org:8080/GF8200/

Edit: I looked up MCP78M-A, and found an ECS mobo with the same name. http://www.compusa.com/applications/...?EdpNo=3797665

Wow, there's a BIOS update 05/10 for six-core CPUs. Unfortunately, only 95W CPUs are supported on this board, which means that we have to wait for AMD to release the 95W Thubans, which AFAIK aren't out just yet.

You lucked out. Its just a debranded ECS GF8200A Black Series. Shouldn't have any problem using the BIOS from ECS. Great buy for $50. I might have to visit a couple area Staples to see if they have any on clearance.
