My 3200 Lexmark printer is on its last leg and I fear it will leave me hanging one late night when a paper is due...:Q:Q

WEll I am reagarding the choices, and I am amazed by the masive selection that I know nothing about.

Lexmark was a nice brand, but I am looking for something a little quieter and something htat won't shake itself off of the table. THe new z53s are nice but I kinda want "somethin' else"

I have been looking at Epsonand they now seem to have developed printers that can print anything below the one-hour mark( I miss the good ole days of an hour per page)

Anyways, I saw a printer in hot deals that looked nice, but then i ran into the Epson c80 and was kinda impresed(whatever that means)
I usually print black and white daily and photos on ocassions.

I saw it a BestBuy for about 120-140 and a rebate. anyone have any info for me?

I have taken a look at HPs, but they just don't cut it when it comes to photos. My 3200 can wipe the floor even with the best HPs when it comes to detail. I've printed REALLY HIGH QUALITY(1600x1200) from a good scanner and I was amazed at the quaity. Still, it makes too much damn noise..oh yeah..its dying too.

How are they on ink..etc...

thanks

anything else good out there? good prives for the printer in mind?

thanks

If you can wait it out, you could look in the hot deals forum for a laser printer.
I got my NEC 870 from buy.com for ~$130
Its been going strong for 1.5 years and I've never had to do more than put paper in it. Havent yet had to replace the toner, and yes, I do a fair amount of printing.
Next toner cartrige will cost ~75 and last 5k pages.

imo, its more economical in the long run and it prints faster
no color tho :-/

Yeah, I was think ing about a laser, but I am not sure. I still want to be able to print in color, but if I find A GREAT DEAL, mayber..there was that Brother model....

The thing is I want HIGH RESOLUTIONS. Evn though most of my stuff is in B&W I Still print a lot of documents with embedded graphics...VERY-detailed pictures.

By the way I am an engineering student..that is why i need detailed output

You must have not printed on photo paper, or not set the printer to "photo paper," because the HP 9 series and Photo Printer series are among the best when it comes to photo printing.

In fact, I've never seen a review that did not rank the HPs the best, or among the best when it comes to printing photos. I print photos for friends and family all the time, and they think they're professionally done.

would the Epson 8xx classes be better?

I don't know what their ranking is..checked the website but I trust people better than the fowlness that is marketing;)

Nice. I've got the slightly older 970 and a G85. The G85 is an incredible all in one solution that prints with the quality of the 9 series, yet has a flatbed scanner, copier and fax with a paper feeder so you can fax unattended.

What ever 9 series, G series, or PSC series printer anyone buys, make sure to pick up the duplexing attachment if it doesn't already come with one. It's great to print double sided and not have to be there to turn the paper around and hit continue.

The older Epson's 880/888 are the last 'value' epsons (read: cheap ink available), the new c-series are more expensive to own, although cnet ran a comparison a month ago of all the new inkjets from epson, canon, HP, lexmark, and I think xerox, and the c80 came out cheapest to own over 3 years, at $.04/page. Also, that was one review that did not name an HP as the top, I'll see if I can find a link.

I have an Epson 888, a C80, and an HP 972. For quality, I wouldn't trade the C80, the new inks are amazing, and waterproof. For cost, I can get cartridges for my 888 for $2/b&w, $4/color...

I guess the c80 gets my vote.....

...what would be a good reason to go to HP? just asking...someone offered me an only medium deal, but I am interested.

Canon makes a S600 now I think it's s620 or S630 that is pretty good overall, $199 at Best Buy, also Canon has a S800 which has 5 different colors in it's cartidge (sp?) and are excellent for photo quality prints, per PC World on the last time I went through there looking for printers.

Here's a thought for you. If you WANT to be able to print in color, but DON'T NEED IT for 95+% of the things you print, just keep your lexmark, and get a cheap laser. It will save you lots of money, and you will have much better quality documents.

How about an LED-printer? Same quality as a laser printer (even in color) yet for a much lower price.

My father has an Oki 16W (b/w) LED-printer and it's no worse than any b/w laserprinter I've encountered so far.

I finally got the c80. This thing is awesome. I love the way it looks too. The clear/smoked-glass type cover is anything but an eyesore.

AS for the printing quality, I am amazed.

I recently bought a Lexmark Z33. I find it to be a very fast and quiet printer and was amazed at the quality of the printouts I get from it. It's not a laser but I find it a very good value for the price.
