As some of you may know about a week ago my dad was served with papers regarding a lawsuit that was being filed against him for just under $30,000.00.

After reviewing the situation with a lawyer they figured out that the other party had actually engaged in an illegal business practice, and now they're counter-suing them for an amount which should equal just under $1 million once all the paperwork for the last six years has been poured through.

Oh boy! Now there's retribution for ya.

He's counter-suing for extortion.

That'll be a nice income increase if he wins! :p

Nice man. I read that previous thread and you were talking about not seeking legal counsel and representing yourself. Good thing you went with the lawyer, and now they're gonna pay. Good work.

I'm pretty surprised still. My dad didn't even know what extortion was, he thought what they were doing was completely legal becuase he agreed to it. Both the lawyer and I were pretty amused.

But that's still 250K for your dad :)

In this case its all that much sweeter that it equals a million less for the extortionists.

Congrats! Make sure to take a picture with the cheque and mail it to the genius who signed the papers for the lawsuit against your dad in the first place ;)

Maybe even offer him a bottle of good scotch as a thank you?

If we win I think I'll shake his hand instead of our lawyers.

That seems low, I would have thought around 30% + fees. Any real lawyers want to chime in?

Could be that I live in Canada also. The case is pretty cut and dry, he asked for 25% to start with and eventually we got him down to 10% as long as we pay him to defend the actual suit, but the counter suit is on a contingency basis.

Reminds of the story when the guy insured his cigars, smoked them, then file a claim that they were burned.

Then the insurance company had him arrested for arson.

shut up about your stupid house.

You really need to get a life.

i would agree with you normally, but you were just flaunting that house way too over-the-top. no one needs jeans that cost more than 60-70 (at the very most). anything more than that and you are paying for a name. dont even try to argue that...if you put on jeans from 10 different companies, ill bet you anything you want that you would choose the wrong brand 6/10 times. not trying to be rude, even though i am, but you need to chill with being so cocky. its just not funny.

God... so much paperwork.

In the excel file I'm recording all the invoices in I want to charge interest, 2% per month. How would I make it so that for every month it has been since the charge was made it charges 2% interest (compounding)?

MrCodeDude, bradruth never would have fallen for me if it weren't for my Diesels, Luckys, Papers and Mavis.

Expensive jeans are better jeans. Expensive cars are better cars. Etc....
