There was a thread about OGame I dunno.... one and a half years ago. We had an alliance, AT in Uni 13. Then some left and moved to Uni 22, as the Mongooses, and eventually formed the Uni 32 Mongooses. And if you need beginners tips, go to the OGame board. Just go strictly metal and solar until lvl 5 metal, then do crystal for 3 lvls. Then you can go for deut or crystal. Might wanna make a shipyard too. Edit: I'm currently playing Uni 32 under Frylock1(waiting for the 7 days so I can make it Frylock).

Depends what you want. If you want a deathstar, it can take from 2 months all the way up to 2 years if you aren't working for it. Usually, if you want to be raiding and making a profit, it will take 2 months of good investment. If you find someone giving away their account thats higher than you, take it! Easy way to get more points.
