Edit: The phone is now absolutely FREE!

Amazon has the MOtorola MPx200 smartphone for $29.99 AR and activation of contract with AT&T. This phone originally retailed for $199.99, then amazon had it for $79.00. They just dropped this price yesterday to $29.99 after $170 MIR.

It's free after rebate if you sign a 2 year agreement

$50 if you sign up for a 1 year agreement (better than 2 year b/c contract termination fee is like $175)

I got the 39.99 for the 350 anytime + free nights and weekends + 200 bonus anytime minutes ( bonus min not advertised)

You still have to pay 3x.xx activation though..

You can sign up for an amazon credit card and get a 30 dollar credit.

anyone know if the phone can be unlocked?

despite some ppl's complaints about AT&T GSM, I've had nothing but good experiences in Seattle, WA area. I guess GSM service is better up here?

I updated my orignal post to reflect that the phone is now FREE AR.

It's $170 without rebate

the GSM service around Atlanta sucks bad.. im a glutton for punishment so I signed another contract just to get this badass phone. I hate myself.

I really want to go back to sprint.. best phones/service for ME.. but the plans and phones are so expensive ie Treo 600.

Well.... http://www.attwireless.com has the NEC 515 for free too!! and its an instant rebate too!!

and the NEC 515 seems to be almost as good.

Also... I dont know if I would trust a microsoft programmed phone;). My windows itself behaves so weird all the time. I dont want to keep downloading patches for my phone... even if the patch is free!!...After all..I would need to pay for EVERY KB!!;);)

I dont know abt the rest of the country... but ATT coverage is crappy at my place. But I opted for the local plan... and I roam on Cingular's network free of charge all the time (In my local area)....without having to get Cingular's crappy phones or their crappy deals;).
Even managed to get in on a free after IR sony ericsson T616

I have an ATT local plan.. which allows me to roam free on Cingular's network within my local area. Since Cingular has the best signal strength in my area...and ATT-GSM has the worst....I am always on the Cingular network. get pretty darned good reception as a result.:).

So..... if you use a local plan.... you can still use ATT (Which has some good plans/ phones).. and be on some other network. Best of both worlds I would say:) So... if you have the time...go and check things out:)

Does anyone know how the GSM reception on this phone is in the tri-state NYC area? I am happy with my AT&T v60 and am worried about losing coverage with the MXP200. Any help would be much appreciated.

The motorola MPx200 has the windows smartphone operating system on it, while the NEC has something else AFAIK.

it's 170 if you sign a contract, 1 or 2.. it'll cost like 100 more for non-contract purch price also did you see the 249 treo deal for sprint? sprint's horrid where i live.

i got on the t616 deal w/ 2 year contr, make $50 and get the jabra bluetooth headset for free. (i'm not sure of the gms coverage, but if it sucks i'm canning it, and finding me a new provider. 30 day guarantee is a good thing :D prolly more expensive verizon.

btw, wth is the deal w/ new subs getting way better deals than existing? i had to have my sister sign me up w/ a new account to get me a cheap phone.. boooooooooo

just keep in mind that this phone is not made by motorola, so it does not have that same quality and great reception that "real" motoroloa's have. It is made and was developed in korea by Cei Mei.

All reviews I've read and ppl that have this phone at work indicate no problems with reception.

ok..just wait until Feb. then :)

mpx220 (bluetooth, camera, EDGE)

this is a dumb question but how do you take advantage of bluetooth on the camera? Don't you need some sort of bluetooth receiver to transmit data to your computer (such as contacts)? Or is this just to use wireless headsets, etc

well.. some of the latest mobo's have bluetooth connectors... you can use those
You can get USB bluetooth modules which can be used to transfer data to and from the computer.
Bluetooth also works with certain car stereo systems (Newer upper end models)
You can get wireless headsets......

in the works:
bluetooth remote control s/w for controlling ur computer from afar....etc:D
