Currently, I backup all the data files on my home computer (Win 7) to two separate external HDDs. I am beginning to think I need offsite storage.

I am wondering if I could this, using CrashPlan to backup the data files on my home computer to an external HDD on my office computer (which is at a different geographic location). CrashPlan offers a free backup plan, wherein you can backup your files to a friend's computer located elsewhere. Since my office will let me install programs of my choice, what do you think of this idea?

Or, are there better alternatives for offsite backup?

Thank you for your attention.

Yes, you could do that.

Or you could use the Crashplan 1 year free cloud account (Google it). After that it's $50 a year.

I have the $120 / year plan that lets you backup up to 10 computers to their cloud. Also I have a machine here with lots of storage that I'm backing up to. And of course backups to external drives that are kept off-site.

Yes, I'm running backup in triplicate :)
