i was thinking about some KC daylighter or PIAA 52X lights. those are just the first lights that came to mind and i was wondering if any one had any recommendations for lights in the 75-150 range (have to budget as i am adding on a lot of other stuff too). im relatively new to this stuff so i figured someone out there would know and feel like enlightening me. i have a brush guard with the standard holes. nowadays i mostly drive on streets but once or twice a month i take it offroading out in the desert. also, is 100 or 155W excessive or is 55W good enough?

here is a picture of the front end of my truck:

any constructive suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I heard in the 60's they would swap the high beams on a quad-headlight (separate hi/lo lamps) car for landing lights, but I thought they needed a seriously beefed up electrical system.

03-06-2002, 05:06 PM ... I have had PIAA, Hella and KC Gaylighters, and none could hold a candle to the big IPF 900's I have now. They throw out a nice flood pattern, have nice metal housings and heavy duty mounts, excellent lenses and come with covers, which to me was crucial for long drives on dirt/gravel roads with other vehicles. They come will a complete wiring harness and a very neat self-contained switch that looks like a computer mouse. I liked the switch so much that I bought a couple extra ones for my rocklights.

I bought them three years ago for $160 and have absolutely no regrets, I would *strongly* recommend them to anyone. I believe the price remains in that range, definitely less than $200 for the two lights.

just wanted to get a feeling of the different type off Offroad lights out there that people are using. I used to run aircraft landing lights but I can not find the housings any more.(it is a PAR-36 housing 4 1/2 inch, anybody have any ideas where I can get them) The light beam was a cross between a elliptical spot and a flood, 180 degree coverage and very good depth. Getting the lights is easy. The housings are very hard to find...

The old style "landing lights" are effective BUT their life span is a bit short (50 hours?).

have seen aircraft landing lights require separate (24V) electrical subsystem. Have seen reference to 12V landing lights, but not found any solid info yet.
