Well finally got a decent system this morning, not great but okay.

4700 w/WinXP Home
P4 2.8 Ghz
512 MB RAM
80 GB SATA HD
16x DVD-ROM
128 MB X300 SE
Key/Mouse

ended up at 323 before tax, added a monitor and speakers and got the free shipping for a total of $467 shipped for a complete system. Went to Newegg and picked up a modem, cd burner, and floppy drive (and free cd book!), now we have a complete system for $500 for my in-laws (they had like....a pentium....so.....sloooooooooow).

Good deal for a whole system. Something they sure as hell woudn't find anywhere else for that kind of money.

I don't even know how I got it....this would be for my aunt.

As long as your aunt isn't planning on 3D gaming, it's a fast enough system.

Exactly...and she would only store documents.

The free shipping offer expires tonight though, that's why I'm kinda pressed to get something tonight.

rugby--u think I can do better even after the free shipping offer expires?

Remember that even if you can't snag a truly smokin' desktop for your aunt, even the one you grabbed is going to be so much better than whatever she could get from CompUSSR, Fry's, Best Buy, Circuit City, etc. All she is going to think is that she got a excellent deal on a desktop that will last her for a few years.

It's such a tough call because for 2-300 more you could get a GREAT system if you're lucky. Time is money (at least to me it is) so hunting around for a perfect deal isn't worth it sometimes.

If it's for a family member who only uses it for normal stuff, it will probably last them a good long time.

This would be on spec though, I don't have the final go-ahead. Also feel like I don't want to just go with the first dump I was ever online for.

I'll keep an eye on this thread and the one on FW, and if I have time try to write a script.

I'm more interested in getting the fastest processor for the money, with memory being second, and even the smallest HD will do. Graphics adapter is useless to her, and all she really needs is a CD burner....that can play DVDs, she'd be thrilled with all that.

yeah...also, she has not given me a price range in which to work yet. So just jumping on this $400 system, when say she may be willing to pay $750, would be silly.

I'll wait it out and keep an eye out...I'll talk with her tomorrow about price range, and assume that there will be another killer deal/coupon code coming down the pike.

if you guys are reselling xps gen4, dont grab too many, gen5 is coming out soon. save your money or else you cant ebay them for too much

Not a hot deal. I had an identical system (except for a P4 2.8/533) in my cart for ~ $225 earlier. In addition, the 10% off coupon appears to be DEAD.

This is currently the hottest deal on a Dell, IMO:
http://www.fatwallet.com/t/18/460264/

Dimension 8400 with 19" LCD for $499 after instant discount and rebate. Dell will likely cancel it soon though, as the base system is already an Outrageous deal and I doubt they would normally allow a $300 instant off coupon on top of that. Act fast!

I don't think GEN3s have done well at all for a while now. Did you get a great deal on it?

Gen5 ---> SLI?

And dual core P4's, too.

no. i thought of getting it for myself to actually use. thats why i went ahead with that one and got a 3 year warranty too

Man, I din't think there's big different between Gen3 and your current rig. Why not sell Gen4 for a good price and keep Gen3 for a while. I think Gen3 will still rock for one year!

Man, you can't catch up PC tech Update!!

I built my rig myself and really enjoy it!! Although I bought Dell, my CPU is AMD. AMD rocks!!

When I go to checkout my Dell 2005FPW & filler item purchase, the discount coupons won't stack.
I had an online chat with a Dell sales guy about it, and he insisted only 1 coupon can be applied to an order.

QUESTION: HOW are you guys getting multiple coupons to stack up for a double or tripple discount?
