So I finally got certified, go me! If anyone is looking for an A+ Certified Technician I am currently looking for a job, I'll move but perfer the Oregon, Washington area if possible. I'm just stoked I actually got a cert in the field. 850 on the core exam and 895 on the Technician exam.

Not really much of one. Employers most likely won't care much about it. They'll care more about real world experience, or some sort of higher level certifications like MCSE or CCNA.

I know...but it is a step in the right direction, I have taken classes to get my CCNA and actually have a pretty firm grip on the tech sector. the actual test and course material for the A+ was pretty pathetic IMHO but again I have experiance so for someone just getting in to the field I would think it is a good starting point.

wow this post editor really butchers what you put in to it.

It'll help get your resume read and that's all that matters. It's a useless cert in all practical applications, but if some HR person doesn't know anything about tech, they'll usually list it as a requirement just to get an interview.

hah. you are right.

a A+ is a decent start. if nothing else you got a good foundation. Just do not expect it to do a lot for you. 15 years ago it was mandatory. not as much today.

Good job, however by itself A+ isn't worth a whole lot ... I suggest you go for Security+ next.

Yes. You should go for an array of them to make a better impact. Go get your Network+, Security+, and Server+.

THen your MCSE, CCNA, MCDBA, etc...

Good job on your A+! Don't let anyone tell you it's not important -- Anything helps.

Keep studying for your CCNA! I will be taking my CCSP in a month or two.

That's assuming his resume actually gets read. Kind of hard to show them all your experience if your resume gets put in the "toss" pile because it doesn't have "A+" under certifications.

This is the key point. Even an HR will realize that 10 years experience >>>> A+ Cert

Edit: Think of it this way. Let's say you have $1000 in your pocket. Let's say you then find a penny on the ground. Chances are you'll leave it there, because it's only a penny; it's an insignificant fraction of the total you already have, and it might be a waste of a few seconds to bother picking it up.

Picking up the penny makes you wealthier by a tiny amount. The A+ Certificate is the penny. It's practically worthless, but it's something.

QFT ... The only reason I have my Certs listed near the top of my resume is exactly this.

I'm 22, I say 10 years by doing some dirty math and rounding up, professional like I started @ 15 so it is closer to 7 years, before that I was a hardcore geek...I got it because of the fact that most HRidiots don't know their ass from a hole in the ground and don't understand that you can have every cert under the sun and still understand jack sh!t about technology.
