1942 Mosin-Nagant 91-30. It's a sweet shooting rifle. Only took 3 hours to get all the cosmoline off of it.

The gun didnt cost much, the ammo is cheap and it shoots dead on. I figured it would kick more than my Savage 308 but it doesnt.

Considering it's a '42, it doesn't look from the pic too beat up or worn. Is that usual? Did you shop around and look for one in better shape or something?

The place I bought it from had two crates of 91-30's on the floor and they all looked relatively good. From what I can gather it was refurbished shortly after the war, bathed in cosmoline and stored. I seriously doubt this one saw much action. It wasn't counter bored, the barrel is shiny and the groove in great shape. The front sight is off and I need to figure out how to drift it to the right a little.

I've seen a lot of them that looked like they were pretty beat up.

Got the rifle with all the trimmings in the picture and 60 rounds of ammo for $124. Not to bad of price. I know AIM has them cheaper but thats sight unseen.

I have off Monday and Tuesday so I might do a WWII range trip with my Garand, MN 91/30, and Enfield No.1 Mk. III

My brother just got one from AIM and paid the extra $10 to let them a very good one. He picked it up Wednesday from the FFL dealer. It is in tip top condition for an old gun. Finish is just about perfect. We have not had the weather yet to get up to the range and test it out. It cost under $100

Nice! I love my mosin, I've got a 1942 also. Is yours a Izehvsk (marked with arrow in triangle) or a Tula (arrow in star)? If you've got a Tula, those are pretty rare, because they were too busy moving the factory away from the Germans in 1942 to make many rifles there 😉

Ahh, the good ole mosins. Maybe I'm just a girl, but it definitely kicks more than my 308 (24" savage 10fp in a bell & carlson). The metal butt plate doesn't help either.

The 91's I guess are a little better than the 38s or 44s.

Picked up my springfield 1911 lightweight today. Pics later.

Maybe we should have an official, YAGT Look what I just got thread

Mine Izehvsk. Has the triangle with arrow. It also has a cluster leaf with the hammer and sickle in the middle of it.

Sounds like a good idea for us gun nuts! 😀

I have a Savage 110FP Tactical with a 26 inch heavy barrel and it kicks more and louder than the Mosin. The steal butt plate is going to hurt when I'm not wearing winter clothes.

Change your title and I'll post pictures when I get home later. I don't want to steal your thunder. 😉

EDIT: For the cosmoline, I like to leave it out in the sun in a black garbage bag just to make sure it is all gone. Doesn't work as well in the winter though.

Steam cleaner for the cosmoline. I borrowed my land lady steam cleaner. Dont think she new what I was using for. 😀 The wood wasnt that bad the metal was a dfferent story.

Got mine about a year ago, 1938 with no counter bore. All the steel is in great shape, the stock shows some signs of wear, mostly just dings and minor scratches, nothing big. Still haven't gotten around to cleaning it and taking it out. 🙁

Why not? Clean it up and get out and shoot it! You never know when a zombie will show up at your doorstep.

Bought another 91/30, 1940 Ishvezk. All numbers match except the magwell plate.I refinished the stock and touched up some of the metal. Its a little more accurate than the 1942 Mosin.
