I thought it would be a good time to consolidate problems and fixes for installing XP. Please post your problems/fixes here. Anyone searching "XP Install" or a similar search string will be able to find it and hopefully we can document a few problems.
Problem: During Install, a pop-up appears saying that XP can't find certain files and asks you to point to them. Unfortunately, it won't let you pick any files on the CD.
Fix: Copy the i386 directory from your CD to your Hard Drive. When the pop-up appears, point to the Hard Drive.
Problem: After install, XP does not recognize CD drives (may happen in conjunction with above problem)
Fix: This is a hardware configuration problem. A potential fix may to update your BIOS. I fixed the problem by switching the IDE cable to the secondary IDE port.
Problem: After install, users with a Monster MX 300 may experience problems with sounds stalling when two applications compete for soundcard resources. Once the problem shows up, sound is dead until you reboot (sometimes for several reboots).
Fix: The fix for this problem is found here. Ignore that is says the fix is for Win2K (and not XP). It will solve your problem.
