Nah, not bitter. It just gives me extraordinary pleasure to see an overrated team lose, especially the Yankees. That makes it twice as sweet, almost as good as last night's football game... :)

Hey, if the Yanks are overrated, what does that make the Sox? I don't think they're overrated, I think they are playing like crap right now. But the talent is there.

Playing like crap now? Huh?

Hitting lots of bunkers? And how would you know?

What's that I hear? Oh, it's just the door being slammed on the Yankees season!!

Where have I heard this before? Oh, yeah in Minnesota. No, no, in Boston. Oh wait, in both places! We got Pettitte and Moose waiting to pitch. I ain't giving up just yet.

3x payroll!
All that goes to show is that payroll does not necessarily mean wins.

I agree that a payroll cannot always buy a world series championship since luck has a lot to do with it. However, this doesn't mean that it's OK and good for baseball (IMO) to have a $160-$180 million payroll.

Basically a big payroll like the Yankees ($60 million more than the next team) would make it almost guaranteed to make the playoffs every year. They're buying their dynasty. A small market team can win the World Series, but I don't think they'll really get a dynasty, unless under special circumstances.

Edit: And I'm not a Boston fan, even though my profile says I'm from there.

Nope, I watched "Extreme Makeover" and started installing Mandrake for a new Athlon64 box... All in all, probably more exciting watching people go under the knife than be subjected to idiotic announcers.

Just show me the highlights on SC.

I actually tried to watch it but I feel asleep on my recliner around the third inning and didn't wake up until the last out. After the Yankees Red Sox Series this is extremely Anti Climatic.

IMO, it's like prozac and a laxative rolled into one. Nothing like a relaxing trip to the hopper. Now the Yanks/Red Sox was like drinking Red Bull and getting the runs (runs, get it? lol).

Bwahahahaha.

"Trailing 3-2 in the World Series to the Marlins? A second baseman playing right field? No reliable middle relief? Aren't these clear examples that the Yankees didn't nearly spend enough money last winter?

...I know everyone is still disappointed about the Cubs and the Red Sox falling short of the World Series, but admit it. Seeing tightwad George's expression while he watches another team celebrate on the mound at Yankee Stadium would almost make up for it."

Dam right. Cashman, send out your resume NOW. Your team is old, fat and out of shape, overpaid, and overrated. Luck can only get you so far.

No, it means there is a God and you can't always BUY the fvcking championships.

The Yankees spent a ton of money in the 80s but they sucked ass... No one brings that up cause they werent winning.

Luck? Developing your own players is not all luck... Everyone knows the Yankees are in trouble if they keep spending money and trading away their farm system. And lets say the Yankees do in fact lose and George cleans house. Chances are he will definitely reduce payroll the question is by how much?

Well it's probably because many other teams spent more money than them. You can spend a ton of money, but it doesn't always guarantee you a spot in the playoffs. It just increases your odds by ALOT. If the Mets and Dodgers keep spending the way they're spending, they'll eventually get to the World Series in the next 5 years, u can bet on it. Unless the Braves/Giants spend more hehe...

I'm willing to bet he'll spend the same amount, or even more next year. Or if he reduces payroll like you said, it'll be more than Boston. There's no way he'll be outspent by Boston, the craziness in his DNA just won't allow it. He'll sell off his family and all of his assets/investments/mutual funds before he lets his rival spend more. I guess that's the one thing that u have to give him credit for, he's probably NY's #1 fan, money talks, BS walks. :)

Im willing to bet the payroll next year will be lower. I honestly dont think it could be any more than $180 million.

I think their payroll will be about the same - $160 million. I think people get the $180 million by the average of the contracts?

I can't even imagine what the Yankees payroll will be in 2005, 2006. They already have what, $80-$100 million committed? Or in other words, they could not even sign any free agents from now to 2006 and still probably have a higher payroll than a team like the Marlins in 2006.

Money doesn't guarantee winning, it just makes it a lot easier. It also makes it a lot easier to 'swallow' horrible horrible contracts. A bad contract really hurts a small team. It hurts a large market team a little. It hurts the Yankees a little less.

I know it doesn't but some people are bandwagon complainers about the Yankees. They think money constitutes winning but it doesnt. It helps but there are no guarantees.

Game 6 prediction: Marlins 5-3.

reasoning: Marlins are relentless hitters. They got shutdown by cubs' wood and pryor but smoked them the 2nd time around...same thing will happen tonight on the 2nd go-around with Pettitte. :)
